At the start of the year i set myself the goal of running 1000K this year.
As of tonight i've run 880K - three 5Ks, four half marathons and nearly 80 10Ks. Mostly laps of Drimnagh.
That means 120K to go - just 12 10Ks and four weeks to do it. Perfectly doable if health and weather permit.
Then this evening i read about the Advent Running challenge - 25 runs in 25 days between Dec. 1 and Dec. 25.
I quickly realised if i did 5K a day for 25 days i'd make the target while giving myself an unexpected sub-twist-challenge-thing to the original goal. Intriguing!
It's Christmas party season, i'm busy with work, and the light is short and the weather is inclement and i'll have to run some mornings if i'm to do it (which i hate) but i'm going to give it a shot.
I don't really like 5Ks. They don't play to my strengths of lumbering doggedness where speed is of secondary importance and they've always seemed just a distance to bust through rather than work up to BUT this plays right into my desire to find a challenge in 5K.
So i'm gonna try and repeatedly break my PB (a dawdling 29m10s) which should frankly be easy enough.
But can i remain motivated and find the requisite mental satisfaction?
Perhaps its the whiskey i'm drinking telling me i can. Tomorrow and the days ahead might tell a different story.
