Naked people have little or no influence on society.
Mark Twain
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not expressed in fancy—rich, not gaudy,
For the apparel oft proclaims the man.
Hamlet Act 1, Scene 3
Okay I asked for some opinions on starting this thread in the BBV and received some useful feedback. Some people felt, with good reason, that it was unnecessary duplication of what was already out there on the interwebz, but personally I think it would be useful to collate good advice and information for those buying and altering clothes as a lot of interesting information on the subject has been posted in the BBV over the years but it does tend to get lost and forgotten and hard to find when you actually need it!
Plus having an Irish perspective on tailoring services and availability would be something I'd find useful.
In addition, I'm doing a bit of homework in this area at present so I think it's worthwhile to post my findings as it might save someone else the spadework and I may learn how to do something easier thanks to other posters contributing to this thread.
Obviously there are a number of great blogs and useful websites which people could bring to everyone's attention which it would be useful to include in this post over time (perhaps a little bit of background on the blog or website so people can judge its relevance or usefulness to them would be good too)
I'll start the ball rolling on some useful blogs/websites here and if people have sites to add or reviews of tailors/clothiers/retailers a link could be added in by a kindly mod in time.
Blog Roll
The Sartorialist
A pretty cool photo style blog by Scott Schumann. Mainly photographing street style in Milan, Florence, New York and Paris. Male & Female.
Permanent Style
A fantastic blog covering bespoke tailoring and so much more by Simon Crompton. Mainly London based but covers Europe and NY as well. Great reviews and educational articles.
Real Men. Real Style
An earnest american style site which is aimed at a more mainstream audience but has useful bits and pieces if a little long winded.
How to build a wardrobe - The art of manliness blog
A good jump off article on an american site that I have now added to my RSS reader as it's articles are of a consistently decent standard and depth whilst obviously covering a wider range of topics then just clothing.
