Its beginning to look unlikely the Rankings will continue next year as sponsors seem to be thin on the ground due to the current climate in the poker industry and its a bit pointless running it without a decent prize at the end of the year. I dont really have the time at the moment to go chasing other potential revenue streams outside of the poker industry unfortunately.
Thanks Ciaran , i will be looking to hit the big smoke for a night of debauchery with yourself and anyone else that cares to join us . Just thought there might be a tourney on that i could get barred from beforehand

Still awaiting Bundoran results & full results from the Boylepoker Winter Series but the provisional Top 3 going into December looks as follows.......

Crossbar weekend for Doke (who needed to ladder one more spot in Tallaght) & Nick Newport (who needed Top 2 in the Fitz but managed 8th) for either to take the lead.

All very tight at the top with a min cash in any remaining Event good enough to take the title at the moment.

Will put up a full write up once all the weekends results have been added.

Hi Ciaran, just thought i would through something out for discussion with regards to next years rankings. Firstly you deserve great credit for your effort up to now but bigger prizes are needed for the rankings to continue. What if each event held back 1% to go into a prize fund to pay top 10 next year? Only events that qualify through your criteria and contribute to the prizepool would count towards the rankings. I know some of the big events, Irish Open & UKIPT'S. may not be interested but there are enough decent ones in Ireland to build a good fund. Northern Poker and Celtic Poker would be up for it. Thoughts please.

Same sort of thing has been suggested to me.
Some of the bigger events may not go for 1% so a flat fee of say €200 per event or €1 per player may work better. There are almost 80 ranking events this year so a decent prize pool on either system.

Either way, to give dice anything less than free entry to the Irish Open given the amount of effort he's put in would be a scandal, no??

I agree but who is going to pay for it this year? Next year an allowance could be made for Ciaran out of the fund.

It could be worked with either 1% or 1 euro per player Mick but 200 euro per event would not leave a big enough prizepool in my opinion. I know some operators already deduct up to 3% for staff wages, which i dont agree with, but 1% is reasonable to create a rankings system which will keep players interested for 12 months.

Not sure 1% would work with big buy in events like Irish Open or big Prize pools like IPO. Need a bit more feedback from promoters.

Just attach it to the reg fee and it shouldn't be a problem.

Nice of Ciaran to keep such a system going: however I do not think adding more charges to tournaments (in whatever guise) is sensible. I, for one, would not wish to pay more in tournament entries just to see who is top of a league that, in truth, is only going to be seriously competed for by a handful of players who have the time, dedication and money to play most events. This will not be the case for most players.

Would you object to the idea of €1 per entry coming out of prize pool?
This year's ranking race has come down to the wire and it's gonna be tough on the runner up who will walk away with zero. More prizes would make it worth competing for imo.

RANKINGS updated with all last weekend results.

6 Ranking Events to close the year out in December although some Events clashing on the same day means probably a maximum of 3 events per player for those near the top looking to be crowned Number 1 come year end.

Very close now at the Top with only 11 points between our Top 2 - Ivan Tononi & Dara O'Kearney. Nick Newport is still there in 3rd, 160 points behind, which is well in striking range (Top 9 in any Category D game).

A brief look at the contenders year so far........

                                              1) Ivan Tononi (2465 Points)

Ivan started the year in flying form taking 2nd in the opening Ranking Tournament of the year in JP McCann's €1k buyin for a nice 5 figure score. He then moved into 1st Overall with a 4th place finish two weeks later in Star Casino Brays "Super Sunday".

In February, on the same weekend, he manged final tables in both the Fitz EOM & also the UKIPT Dublin Main Event.

May saw 2nd place out in Bray again before taking down the Fitz EOM in June. His last result of the year thus far came with a small cash in a Winimax Side Event in September.

                                              2) Dara O'Kearney (2454 Points)

Dara has been playing catch-up all year in his quest to challenge at the top of the Rankings. His Irish year only got going with a 4th place in the European Deepstack Side Event in late February which was followed a week later with cashes in both the UKIPT Dublin Main & Side Events.

A 2nd in the Fitz EOM of March as well as a cash in the €800 Side Event at the Irish Open Festival kept him moving up before the summer break.

3rd in another Fitz EOM in July followed by another Final Table down at the Macau Irish Classic in Cork saw him jump into the Top 5 overall and begin to mount a challenge to long time leader Ivan.

A cash in the same Winimax Side Event as the leader kept him in touch with another Final Table in the "Spooktacular" and again at The Boylepoker Maldron game last weekend bringing the gap down to its current minimum.

                                              3) Nicholas Newport (2305 Points)

Nick's year has revolved around scores in the bigger buyin games to generate his Ranking Points.

A Final Table in JP's €1k buyin game in January was followed by a cash in the UKIPT Main Event in Dublin in February. Up in Citywest at the Norwegian Festival he managed a Final Table at a Side Event as well as a cash in the JP Masters Main Event.

2nd place in the Fitz EOM in May was followed by Final Tables later in the year at both the "Spooktacular" in the Red Cow & also the Fitzwilliam Festival last weekend to give himself an outside shot at the title moving into the final month of the year.

Good luck to all playing in December.....

I have sent the last few weeks actively chasing sponsorship/prizemoney for the 2015 Rankings to go ahead but unfortunately its beginning to look like an impossible task.

Most of the larger poker operators have either got limited budgets which need to be used to promote their own brand or anticipate significant changes within their structures in the coming year to be unable to commit to outside funding. The way the poker landscape is in Ireland currently, I can understand.

It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation as the only way to make the Rankings appeal as a viable marketing tool for Poker Operators to use is for it to become an attractive proposition on the basis its something they can't ignore due to its stature & importance among their target market yet their target market (you, the players) only become interested when there is a substantial prizepool on offer.

This year we have over €7100 in the prizepool (up 300% from our first years €2,400 last year) and I honestly saw no reason why if the players of Ireland could keep the interest growing we couldn't have had regular €20k Prizepools with End of Year Finals and be sending people to Vegas with Main Event Packages etc...

Unfortunately it seems the interest in promoting it among players seems quite small which means the interest in Sponsors coming on board is also small which is a shame.

I will review it in January and will commit to doing it for the coming year regardless of the prizepool gathered as I know from speaking to lots of players at Festivals/Games they like to see it done, so I do think its a worthwhile exercise in helping promote the game in Ireland, so a thread will be set up for 2015 with all the usual information included.

Wishing you all a fun & profitable pokering 2015.

Also to valiant runner up Dara O'Kearney who chased him all year to close the gap down to the absolute minimum. Third place Nicholas Newport who needed 10th last night to come out on top but finished an agonising 13th. And finally to Daragh Davey in 4th who went into last night with an outside shot at overall victory showing great consistency on the back of 3rd overall last year.

First of all I would like to congratulate with Doke for the great performance throughout the year and the fight he gave until the very end - he showed a big heart! And of course Nick that considering he played fewer events and final tabled a lot of the main festivals would have probably deserved the win more than me, but of course a win is a win and I am happy for myself that it ended this way. I ran really really good in the first part of the year and extremely bad in the second half, probably making some naive mistakes in terms of leaderboard and not taking a couple of min-cashes when I could have, rather than going mad on the bubble as I often do. But I guess overall I got really lucky in the end as both Dara and Nick got very close to overtake me and it didn't happen just for an inch.

Second a big thanks to all the sponsors for the prizes, especially Boyle for the IO ticket which is huge - it would be nice to see the other big poker rooms in Ireland taking example from Boyle and show us the money and make this competition even more interesting

Last and most important of all I would like to thank Ciaran for all the effort he put in organizing this and keeping it alive. A lot has already been said, so I won't need to repeat it - all the work you put in this has been very much appreciated. As a small way to say "thank you" I would like to transfer to you 1 IPO Ticket + the Fitz EOM Ticket from the prizes (I know you play those tournaments but if you have other preferences just let me know ).

As for me, I am back grinding primarily online in 2015, but of course won't miss the main live events! See you guys, may the odds be ever in your favor!
