Going to engagement drinks of a former workmate / casual friend on Saturday. Would it be customary to bring a gift, if so what?

If nothing else, it has started some kind of ball rolling.
The site is close to unusable. It is long past time to face reality on that. And we're losing members as a direct result.
We can't of course guarantee that fixing this problem will bring people back but it certainly can't hurt and it might also stop us losing more.
So....what do we need to do?
(a) Stay on this platform or (b) move somewhere else?
I've seen you guys make lots of heroic effort to fix this site but in my considered and highly technical view, it's irredeemably fucked and we should take option (b).
Can we at least make a decision on this? Then we can get into the discussion of how\who and most importantly, how much? To the last one, I'm sure most members would be happy to kick in $$$ if it meant getting a better platform and being able to revitalise the site.

Were any of the dealers and floor people who normally work at festivals able to get on the PUP?
Festivals will restart before year end,
Brian Lannon tested people's appetite on FaceBook & the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Most staff at festivals are non contact casuals
so they probably didn't qualify for PUP
while casino staff would likely have got it.

Gifts are a pain in the hole and the pocket.
Celebration in the form of party or dinner is grand of course.
Think some celebrations are going way over the top. Weddings over a weekend now fucks sake so 2 nights to budget for. Accomodation/present/food/booze/suit clean/new shirt and tie and usually in some out of the way place that takes 2 hours to get to. Not much change from a bag of sand.
Best gift I have given was a limited edition signed copy of a book (got gouged even after haggling)
Best gift received was pump action toy gun that could fire 5 sucker darts (had a barrel like a gatling gun) in quick succession. Obviously took the suckers off and we took turns trying to make it through the hall and up the stairs under fire.

Was in PaddyPower putting on the acca. The guy goes would you like a free bet for the machines? I say, no its grand. He goes 'why not?' And then there was an awkward pause while I tried to work out how I could justify my non use of betting machines. That's surely pretty shitty behaviour, no?

It occurred to me watching the first half where players were drenched in sweat that heat map be s greater factor in this tournament than usual. Without acclimatising due to single matches in a country sometimes perhaps there's something to be looked at betting wise for some games with colder climates playing players?

Have enjoyed watching some sumo recently, after I found out I have a Japanese news channel on my tv. Really don't get why the ring is raised above the ground outside. Seems to lead to a lot of injuries that have nothing to to with the sport other than tradition.Gone full 'Glinner' since June 2022.

Watched it religiously for a period in the 90s. One of the most balanced and intense sport there is. Might have to look at getting back into it.

You may be right, or I maybe haven't described it well. A sales pitch in that situation should be something quick 'hey, would you like to use the machines, there's a free bet'. Not having to justify your non use of them. Bear in mind those machines are close to being banned they're so problematic. So having a shop policy to push their use quite aggressively seems dodgy.Gone full 'Glinner' since June 2022.

"Did you ask everyone who came in"
"I did"
"Well how come only x people used it"
Grrrrrrrr
Yes it is shitty and annoying and utterly cynical.
X people take up the offer and a % of x do their bollox
Simple numbers game for them.
I clicked on a free offer once on Party and after a series of clicks and bullshit won 50c. Lol. I dont bother with any offers anymore.
One of the things that really irritated me in the fitz was when people referred to the cash league as "free money"
"Eh no you pay for it out of every pot"
Stupid thick cunt Dub going "no it's free, it's a league in all in anyways"
"oh really that's grand so are you playing?"

on the subject of all things Japanese I had okonomiyaki for the first time yesterday..was delicious.
went for lunch to a restaurant we really like here (Canalla Bistro) though don't visit very often and we ate way too much but it was all delicious (it's run by ricard camarena so no surprise there)
bao buns with pekin pork
okonomiyaki with cabbage,bacon,cheese
pastrami sandwich on wholemeal bread
leg of lamb in a brioche with a mixture of sauces/ kebab style (closest I'll ever go to eating a kebab)
insanely creamy forest fruit cheesecake
caramalized french toast with ice cream
washed down with a couple of lagunitas ipas
I like the fact that it's upscale quality while still being a chilled bistro so more relaxed. No cocktails this time but the ipa is a nice refreshing taste so I was happy out.
