I've eight of them in the house all automated and app controlled, linked with Google Home for voice activation.
My living room blinds come up with the sunrise and down at sunset. Slightly different time each day.
The kids bedroom ones are programmed to drop at 7.15pm each evening, so the room is dark for when I'm bringing them up.
Use the bedroom one as an alarm clock weekday morns.
All battery operated, USB charged. Will last about 18 months on a charge.I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

Last time I had it this long the chap I was devilling for insisted I cut off the "Thin Lizzy" locks.
35 years later I finally resuscitate them & herself is insisting they go again in fairly uncompromising terms.
The state of my head is apparently open season for anyone to comment on.
Would I be right in assuming comments from me about the abundant "blonde" roots she's currently sporting might be well received?

I should add, the conversation wasn’t “if I die when Im old and grey. He can see the sparkle for a few years before he goes”. It was a clear tone of: “If I was to die suddenly now, by boyfriend will have to carry me around on display for the rest of his life”.

Its a long article, i just listened to it while out walking yesterday instead of reading it, around 90mins but well worth a listen/read.
Its starting to become mainstream rather than ridiculed i hope.
Anyone with a passing interest will know most of the stuff but for those who are mildly interested its a solid take on the "conspiracy loons"
This too shall pass.

I made an appointment to speak with the company doctor to discuss how safe it still was for me to be on the floor etc, according to my cardiologist i should be cocooning anyway due to underlying health issues and the fact im very fat...covid doesnt like the fatties !!
He agreed to put me off work and we would come back in 4 weeks and see what the numbers are like...that was 8 weeks ago
I have not had 8 weeks off in over 30 years, working since im 18 and ~27 of those years have been shift work (other than 5 months off when i had the bypass)
Anyways...I cant understand how people can be bored, there is just so much to do, not enough hours in the day. Its pure joy being able to start a job and know i dont have to get it done today because i have a week of nights ahead, i can take my time and take as many days as i need to get it done.
Wife and son have both commented how much my mood has improved, not being like an antichrist after a weekend of nights and a total of 10 hours sleep.
Going into bed around 10.30 and getting up 6.30/7...have a relaxing 2 cups of coffee and head off for an hours walk. Getting 10k steps in every day, mind is healthier, soul is healthier and body is getting healthier.
Have also been watching my alcohol intake, has been a tad excessive...Its very easy to convince yourself you deserve something when you know you shouldent be consuming it, justifying it to yourself. Im going to be working this weekend so ill drink tonight...i was working all weekend so ill drink tonight...rinse repeat.
Food, while eating pretty clean, i dont do takeaway or deep fried i do have a massive appetite, always make more than whats needed so i can have a snack that evening...basically 2 dinners. Throw shift work into that and not sleeping correctly is a recipe to pile on the pounds.
Decided to ditch the carbs 4 weeks ago, much easier when i am at home and no shift work, since i stopped eating bread, rice, spuds pasta im quiet happy on 2 meals a day, feel very satisfied on ~1000 calories a day, while not strictly keto, its kind of that with lots of veg and the healthy fats. Havent drank beer or wine either, quiet happy with a few G&T's at the weekend or a few whiskeys, down about 6 or 7 KG's, starting at 130 so it hasn't exactly been a struggle but its working.
Dont think i could have done any of this if i was working, shift deffo takes its toll on the body and having a regular routine is so satisfying.
Whenever i do go back ill be discussing getting a day job or else looking for something else, so much more to life than working. I would grab early retirement with both hands, im only 48 so i have a few years to go yet but having to wait till you are 65 is quiet cruel when you think about it, you definitely have the best years behind you at that stage.
That was a bit of a ramble...basically...I dont like working anymore !
Still waiting to be called for a vaccine, truth be told im happy out waiting
Been mostly behaving myself, walking most days and started the 5x5 stronglifts a few weeks ago, it starts on a really low weight base, but then again i am coming from never lifting anything before so only now starting to feel most of the lifts, OHP I am struggling with, watching a few form videos but from what i have read those muscles are not very big, 35kg is a struggle. Core isnt strong enough to stop my back arching. Look real forward to the DL, that's up to 65kg and the SQ is 50.
Last bank holiday weekend was the first cider i had in 61 days...not that i was counting, i have been drinking white wine and spirits though, that week though spiraled a bit, i knew it would be just the week but i drank nearly every day...knowing it would only be a week...didnt really enjoy it, but wanted to do it all the same.
Wouldn't call it self destructive behavior but i know what i am doing isn't helping and i am SO happy emotionally after a few days off the sauce, it really throws me into a sort of depression, im a different person...moderation is hard and making the decision to stop completely is even harder.
One of the best things i ever heard before was to change something all you have to do is stop what you are doing. It was a friend of my brothers in Australia that said it to him, he told me later, brother was having troubles and the wife had left him, he was trying to contact her all the time and he asked his mate how can i get her back..."stop doing what your doing" he told him.
That one phrase i can seq way into nearly everything in my life that is not right. I can change anything i want to by just stop doing what im doing. Taking time but its slowly sinking in.
In other news, down from 130 to 115kg.This too shall pass.

Good stuff, Oleras. I've also lost a fuckload of weight and completely debloated by cutting out all my IBS triggers and basically only eating fresh prepared food since January. No cider, only drinking shorts with diet mixers to cut out the sugar. I haven't stood on a scales but I've gone from 38" jeans being tight to 35's being loose. I'll need a whole new wardrobe! Looking forward to seeing how much easier playing football will be when I'm not carrying so much weight and without a belly in the way. Form of course as you know is very important. Decrease weight so your form is rock solid and work from there.
Doing a fair bit of walking myself in the mountains so get good workout on the uphill bits, uneven terrain good for all the stabilising muscles too. I throw in pushups every now and again. I can knock out 35 now (was at 38 pre xmas)
Its tough to give up drinking. A nurse was saying to me that the big problem with giving up is when you start again you go back harder and she was right in my case. Not getting drunk or anything but for me a bottle of wine and 1.5 to 2 litres of beer would be a standard night in watching TV amount and could do that 4 nights a week during lockdown. Pre lockdown that would 2 nights a week.
Gave up for 6 weeks once and it felt good physically and no hangovers to cope with!
Think it's a lifelong habit for most people and for me I associate/link it to watching films. It's just a habit I got into.
I intend to break that habit as I know it's not good health wise.
Too many calories, liver working too hard etc.
However I dont want to break it right now!!
Back to my other job next week so just that will put me back on 2 nights a week for starters!
"Stop what you are doing"
I like that. It makes you realise you are the one in control here, you are the driver.
Another good one I read about was in relation to depression/anxiety/anger etc was to ask yourself am I xyz right now this second. Most of the time the answer will be no. Anytime I am doing anything working/walking/socialising/leisure time watching TV etc I dont feel any of those things so when do I feel this anxiety etc and then try to work out why. It was from a book called "The feeling good handbook" Must give it another read actually.
Got the book about 20 years ago after breaking up with my girlfriend and went into a bit of a depression. Was gambling (blackjack etc, not poker) at the time too so it was a bit of a perfect storm situation. The book definitely helped get me back on an even keel or at least improve things.(its difficult to remember the exact state of mind from the past really)
Happy to post it down to you if you like if you PM deets.
It's by David D Burns if you want to review it. Not everyones cup of tea I would imagine but it helped me to some degree.
I think keeping busy and involved in life things as best you can definitely is obviously good although its not always east to get yourself motivated. Like when you ring a friend or sibling you always feel a good boost and it dissipates whatever BS you may have been feeling.
On the motivation thing I read another good bit from a guy who was saying all you actually need is to get motivated for 20 seconds, enough time to put on your runners and leave the house.Once you are outside and walking/jogging the body takes over and you're grand.
Think a lot of dealing with things is just very practical nuts and bolts stuff and you have practicality nailed given some of the impressive projects you've tackled.
So to add another phrase that just occured to me after
"Stop what you are doing" is "Start something else"
Hope all will be well Ras and it will.
PS
Need a good lie down after all that typing Jaysus

He's had a problem with his big toe for months that is causing him a lot of problems and has been getting it seen by a chiropodist and local PHN.
The GP referred him to get an x-ray a few months ago but there appears to have been a mix up whereby he was referred on day 1 and the x-ray was scheduled for day 2 with no communication from the hospital of the appointment amd no follow up even though he got marked down as a no show.
It was only about 3 weeks ago that I got involved and took him back to the GP that they discovered the missed appointment and rescheduled it for yesterday. X-ray shows the infection has got into the bone and he has to be admitted for intravenous anti-biotics.
The queue here is out the door.
The only good things is that he got his 2nd jab two weeks ago so not too worried about him picking up the vid while he is in here but the whole.ordeal is going to be a right pain in the arse and depending on how bad this has got, he could lose the toe and/or foot.
4.5 hours later (which isn't a bad wait time in A&E to be fair) they decide to discharge him as they don't believe he warranted admission. Instead, he's been referred to a orthopaedic consultant who will take culture swabs from his foot and then decide on what to do from there.
So is the GP a drama queen/airing on the side of caution or is the A&E Doc away with the birds, will wait and see.
The whole A&E in there is a complete joke. I've never seen somewhere that just looks and feels so disorganised. They've built mini cubicles for people to sit in which has reduced the number of seats so they've had to erect a temporary marque outside. When they call a patient's name, which is muffled already due to wearing a mask, you can barely hear it when you're in the room but not a hope of hearing it when you are outside. Only once, did one person think of putting their finger on the PA system and call out the name that could be clearly heard everywhere. All the others walked up and down the three rows of cubicles and out to the marque repeating the same muffled name 4 and 5 times. Several people stopped a doctor/nurse and said 'You know people can't hear you?' but they still ploughed on.
While I was there, I saw four people being called in only for them to say they were just seen and were they due back in so quick to be told that it was a mistake and they didn't realise they had already been seen. Best one was when a name was called out and one girl said 'That's my mate your calling'. Doctor got a bit snotty and asked did she know where they were. 'Yeah' your one replied, 'You called her in about 20 minutes ago and she's still in there. I can see her from here when the door opens'
We also got to sit beside Shoveawwwwn once we got into A&E proper who was incessantly texting/voice noting her mate on WhatsApp who was very prompt in replying.
'Hey hun, do you have that one at the minute'
'Should be huh ne we'
'What's that hun?'
'Should be huh ne we'
'Can't make you out hun, say again'
'Should be here next week hun'
'Do you have the shorts in size 8 or 9 hun?'
'Yeah'
'Can you send me a pic of the last one hun'
'The last one hun'
'A picture of the last one hun'
'CAN YOU SEND ME A PICTURE OF THE LAST ONE'
'Thanks Hun'
In fairness to Shoveawwwn, she was lovely and reckoned my Dad was only alive as he still had his sense of humour.
'If ya ever lose the sense of humour, ye'd die hun, it's why I'm always happy and just get on with it, a lot of people don't realise that'
After getting the OK to leave, I told the aul lad to wait outside while I got the car to collect him. I was gone 5 minutes max and then swung by to collect him. On the way home, he says
'Oh yeah, the doctor came out twice and gave me these while you were getting the car.
The first thing was a torn bit of yellow plastic that is found on the back of labels that come out of a printer and had on it a date and time for next week on it and the words 'Beaumont ED' scribbled on it in almost eligible hand writing.
The second was a proper appointment card with the same date and different time.
'What are these for?' I ask, still wondering how I missed this happening.
'Dunno, the doctor came out and gave me the 1st one, went back in and then came out again and gave me the second one.
I'm fairly certain it's an appointment for him to go back and get his foot dressed again which he doesn't need as the PHN calls to the house but after calling the hospital several times this morning, I'm none the wiser.
'Be best to call back on Monday, the person who'd know what that is all about is never here on Fridays' was the official party line.
Part of me wants to praise and commend every single person who works in A&E as I wouldn't last a day there before I walked out, but part of me wants to give them a good shaking and tell them to kop on and stop working in a system that is just so, at best, inefficient and, at worst, completely and utterly inept.
