No, it's not - I'm in a Superbru league (you pick winners of matches and by how many points) with Mrs Lao Lao and two of our mates (another couple) - This is the 3rd 6 Nations league we've done it, loser each time has to cook a three course meal plus wine for the other 3. First time, I won it and Mrs Lao Lao propped up the table so it was great to sit back and let her do everything. 2nd time I finished 2nd but we haven't been able to have the dinner yet due to lockdown.

The result of this game puts me 1 point adrift at the bottom of the league, albeit with 4 games still to go - At 24-10, I was 1.5 points clear of the bottom, proper raging.

should have been there at the time of the comment (both tee shots in the drink) . Double bogey for bryson and saved bogey for Westwood at the 4th(?). He was also at - 14 earlier but greens are drying up fast so it's going to be tough for everyone.

Westwood is grinding hard and saving pars with that putter big time.

Washington had tried to reach Pyongyang in several different ways to prevent tensions escalating, officials said.

New valuation for Stripe after fundraising is rumoured to put it at a $115bn valuation, meaning both Collison brothers probably worth about $10bn each, or a $20bn brotherhood. Its the quietest Irish success story of all time.

Got on a plane today. First time I’m 15 months or so. Interstate work trip. On the return leg right now. Some lunatic at the window dressed in tie dye is trying to smash a bag of spicy rings into his face through his mask. These are the people that really make me look at the positives of social distancing.

Also, NSW recorded its first community case in two months. Security guard at a quarantine hotel. He got the first dose of Pfizer two weeks ago.

He did a good slot on Racing TV the other night where he put up three nice picks.

Thomas Darby and Anything will do as decent EW shouts and Stand up and Fight as an overpriced nap in the Foxhunters.

UL for him though that Thomas Darby is my EW pick of the meeting

I can't find it on the website.

I have to say it was a fantastic 6 months, oodles of money (or so it seemed at the time) group of 18-25 year olds that went out every night in town until the early hours, interpersonal shenanigans during the day. Just brilliant. Was a great place to be if you were young cocksure and willing to spend your day smooth talking people constantly. Though I did think they jumped the shark a little bit when they sent us into Darndale selling dry cleaning services

Somewhat of a weird one in work that has me quite annoyed.

Applied for a promotion - it would take me out of the local branch and to a regional level. It's a dual role where I'd be over all operations for my product in Europe plus I'd be responsible for our 6 Gateways plus fully over a small part of the product for all of Europe (sales/bid/retention, etc).

Went through a two interview process which I felt went well and I was offered the role last week.

Now here's the rub - the uplift is practically non existent - I mean, the monthly after tax uplift wouldn't even cover my wine purchases at the weekend I was baffled (even shocked) when I got the verbal offer and said it wasn't where I thought it should be and I'd have to think about it. On Friday, I went back to the guy doing the hiring (European VP of my product) to advise that the offer wouldn't work for me, somewhat assuming that there would be an element of horse trading but he advised that was the best offer they could make. I politely turned the offer down and we left it on good terms.

This morning, my immediate boss asked to talk to me - He wanted to make sure that I was OK with the decision I made. he knew all about what had transpired on Friday which has clearly come from the VP through back channels (There was only two of us on the call and it didn't come from me) - I told him where I was at and he, almost reluctantly, tried to sell the role to me. How, if the new role took off, the uplift could end up being more over time, how there could be further opportunity if I did well and then let slip that out of all the candidates, I was the clear favourite/winner and that the hiring team felt that the others wouldn't be able to do what I can do . He also went off on a tangent of how I could have the best of both worlds as the role won't require me to relocate (I can still work from the Dublin office and travel as needed) so I can still be involved in local stuff - Why he'd think I'd want to take on a new role and still deal with all the crap from the old one, I'm, not sure but anyway.

But the offer is the offer and maybe I wanted to take an extra day or two to think on it?

He also asked me if I would leave as I wasn't happy with the offer (it's a very real possibility but I didn't tell him that)

I'm not sure whether he's being put under pressure to try get me to change my mind or if he is worried I'd walk so he loses me with much less notice than with an internal transfer plus as I'll still be sitting in his district, he can at least pick my brains on stuff and most likely drag me into things he needs a hand with

                                                                            Comment

That's the annoying bit as what they save on paying the right person, they lose out multiples of in lost opportunity by having the right person in place.

I have a really strong person on my team, has done great work for the last three years but bosses refused to even consider him for promotion. He got pissed off, so moved internally with me to new role and they hired some guy in NY at the higher grade to replace him. NY guy was a disaster (and I heard has just quit) and now they are miles behind on a critical program as a result.

I'd either take whatever is offered even as a holding position making it clear what you want to get out of it and remind them every few months or else I'd polish up the CV with a view to moving on in the short term

However I can't help but get the feeling that they won't budge on the salary. They will hire somebody worse for less money if they can't strong arm me into it. I've seen them do it elsewhere in other roles. That's the annoying bit as what they save on paying the right person, they lose out multiples of in lost opportunity by having the right person in place.

Your mgr possibly likes the idea of this being based in his back yard as it will make his life easier and likely doesn’t want to deal with the impact of having second choice shithouse making a balls of things? I’m sure there is a big element of good for the company and good for you in there too tho.

The other side if this is he right? Will the move open up promotion options down the line that you won’t have without this and importantly are those options that you would want to take?

If your going to push back which I think it sounds like you should you need to know what you will accept and what you can reasonably ask for. Since it’s a pure business decision if you can manage to put some stats around why your output will be worth the extra over the second choice it always makes the conversation easier. This can be very tough as it’s fairly abstract in some ways.

I even gave them a decent spread where I would have taken the lower amount to allow them to be seen to be getting a deal had they countered.

If I took the role, there would be at least 3, possibly four other people ahead of me in the pecking order for the next promotion. That's not to say, I couldn't close the gap by ripping it up in the new role but it's certainly not a case of do well here and you're on the way.

The plot has thickened somewhat as the HR manager for Ireland just rang me to say, they just heard I got offered the role and to say well done. Now the HR manager and my boss are in constant communication every day plus they know everything and I mean everything that goes on in here so there is no way they only found out that I got offered the job last week.

As soon as I said that I was offered it but turned it down, they immediately asked if the money wasn't enough followed by how that I would be so good in the role, blah, blah, blah - a slightly watered down version of the spiel out of my boss earlier.

I feel like it's turning into a scene from 'Allo 'Allo

Its some cheek to expect you to step up big time without a proper bump in pay. And to say, oh it might follow, is just really dodgy.

The one exception is maybe if the experience is super-valuable and you can see how after a year of doing it you could easily jump ship (ho hum) with all the new experience gained for a big uplift.

The problem is that I suspect you actually really like where you work, so you are probably not actually thinking of leaving. So it would just then be more responsibility without the ability to jump ship for the big gain.

Nice situation to be in though! Not perfect, but you'll get it there !!
