Most people here can't really fathom ever voting for Trump, and yet 40%+ of the people in the US are gonna vote for him.

Trump and the Republicans do a good job of demonising Democrats, and most people vote for their own perceived self interest. Unfortunately whipping up hatred and distrust of immigrants, democrats, scientists, socialised health care, abortion, journalists etc has worked in the US, but most people here would never fathom voting for Trump because the things that he stands for are abhorrent.

The average person is a very complicated mess of feelings, emotions and convictions that change drastically over time - it's silly to think a person who voted for Obama couldn't be swayed by Trumps racist rhetoric.

Stupid government! The points I'd build up would usually lead to two decent hauls of free wine each year but no, this is no longer allowed because we have to be told what to do - pain in me hoop!

You can separate the two things. It of course all boils down the old maxim (first said of Trujillo) that 'he might be a son of a bitch but he's our son of a bitch'.

So Trump will pick a very conservative judge. The very conservative GOP will appoint that judge. The very conservative folk who vote for very conservative lads like Mitt will be delighted. Job done from their point of view.

If the shoe was on the other foot, you would hope and expect the Dems would do the same. And if they win all three branches in November then they should launch a jihad. But they lost this one.

I’m aware of what happened last time, and what republicans said. Kinda hard for the play that card though considering Obama ignored the request and nominated a SCJ in 2016.
