Village Green CC - Tournament Schedule Changes - Feedback Thread

Following the recent closure of the Fitzwilliam Casino I’ve been inundated with phone calls and messages from both players and staff of the Fitz.

Firstly, I’d like to offer my sincere regret to all who have lost their jobs so close to Christmas and indeed also to those who have lost their business. If we see a sudden uplift in our poker room, I’d like to invite those who have recently lost their jobs the opportunity of employment with ourselves.

Secondly, one of the common questions I have been asked in the past few days is will I be changing my tournament schedule to incorporate bigger buy-in tournaments to accommodate players from the Fitz. While it’s always nice to receive new customers, there’s a fine line between changing things around to suit new business and those changes costing you the existing business you already have.

That said we will make some changes to the current schedule and invite players (please post your real name) to make comments to our purposed changes as we try devise a new schedule that will be a happy minimum for everyone concerned.

The changes which we are currently looking at are as follows…

1: New Saturday evening €100 NLH tournament. Our current Saturday 3pm €40 re-entry will remain. Both Saturday tournaments will remain Double tournament points for our tournament league.

2: New Wednesday tournament TBC considering €60-€80 NLH. Wednesday night will remain Double Cash hours for our cash league.

3: New monthly tournament. Many of you have said I should not change a thing and leave it at €270 the last Thursday of the month, I’ve also been asked to move this to the last Friday of the month which also has some merit.

4: Our current €150 Buy-in, €5,000 GTD PLO Bi-monthly tournament to become a monthly game.

In the meantime, I’d like to welcome everyone who wishes to drop in and check the club out. I think you’ll be quietly surprised at our facilities; the club has undergone several major changes over the past year.

This Thursday we have our Christmas Cracker with a €1,000 added I’m sure many of you will pop in please feel free to come up to me and have a chat.

          Hi JP,

          Emmett Davis

Just on the proposed changes just a few things:

1: Would be pro the 100 euro NLH Saturday tournament being say a 150 buy in if possible say 730pm kick off. Having the lower buy in tournament earlier seems a very good idea as it could potentially act as a feeder tournament into the Saturday evening one.

2: I think the 270 euro buy in on Thursday would be my preference as it leaves the weekend freed up. Similar turbo format with re-entries allowed would also be my preference. But like you said this format has been incredibly successful so it seems logical to keep it going.

3 Would there be any chance of quarterly bigger buy in events similar to what the Fitz did as in a 550 buy on the Friday and Saturday following the Thursday 270. 2 day events for the 550's. Say 4 times a year. I always felt when they used to run this twice a year that there was more demand for these particularly a few years back.

Wishing you all the best with the new schedule and looking forward to playing at the club,

          Cheers,
          Emmett

            Thanks for the feedback Emmett.

1: Re Saturday €100 being a €150 game instead this could work. We currently have been running a Bi-Monthly €150 NLH and Bi-Monthly €150 PLO tournament which has been getting a good crowd so certainly it's an option.

2: Re the EOM there's certainly a degree of if it's not broken don't fix it, the main benefit of keeping it on the last Thursday of the month is it would clash less with other poker festivals however the big negative of that is Thursday is currently our best night and would therefore be more likely to appeal to more player looking for a new home.

3: While there is certainly scope for a €550 festival, maybe two during the year. With the clubs other commitments (i.e. partypoker Mini GP's) and the other festivals that we run during the year (i.e. Irish Open) it might be a bit of stretch.

                It's mostly NLH and ROE

But we'll certainly put PLO on request

An 7/8pm start times for cash games would be great too if possible.
The fitz had a huge omaha game every night, i wonder where will that be going?

                    Hi JP

Agreed it is an awful situation for the staff (and indeed players) in the FITZ.

Just on your proposed monthly 270 game. I know a few of our players here used to travel to the Fitz for their monthly game on the last Thursday. But as we run our own 230 euro 10k GTD monthly game on the last Friday of every month, you'd be unlikely to see them on the last Friday if you switch to that day.

                        Hi Connie,

I wasn't aware your monthly game was the last Friday. I'll keep that in mind.
Our busiest game for over 10 yrs has been our Thursday night and I can't see to many of our reg's wanting to play for €270.

I'll have to come up with something that keeps everyone happy.
