I am willing to put my job at microsoft on hiatus without hesitation and embark on this adventure, whatever it takes.
Let me know what you need.

I remember when the troubles were at there worse in the north (80's) and tourist wouldn't come to Ireland for the same retard reason. I thought people were smarter today.

Just to remind people 10,000 Irish fans went over to Iran for the World Cup play-off about 12 years ago and had no issues.

P.S. I wouldn't go for different reasons, but I would believe everything Ghol is saying
While I engage of a bit of exaggeration myself from time to time this figure is off to the tune of 9k.
Less than 900 fans went - I was going to all the games at that time and we were fav's to get through. Most fans skipped the expensive trip to Iran and kept the cash for Japan.

Agree with everything else you say though - an Irish guy I know, has played poker over there and never experienced any problems or felt threatened at any time.

I'm moving to Romania on the 1st of October. Sure you're only a pitching wedge away I mainly play NL mtts but by the sounds of the games I should be proficient enough in plo. Have beaten 1/2/5 live over a small sample and a good bit of 50 and 100plo online although that was over 3 years ago. If it did happen I would get back playing and studying the game before heading over. Definately interested but I generally don't plan more than a few weeks ahead. Will prob have to see in a few months after I've settled in.
Mashhad Hashemi nejad airport is the one closest to me.

it gets quit cold here in the winter and temp really varies .
while the coldest i remember it personally has been -25c ,usually it gets to maybe -10 to -15.
actually im pretty sure the average Irish person would find Iran more pleasant during fall and winter rather than 48c in the summer.

while Alcohol is illegal, they drink like motha fuckas over here.
huge amount of alcohol consumed here daily (only spirits and hard stuff) .
pretty much every one here drinks (and i mean every one).

no nothing against lads with long hair (im growing my own hair actually ).

Iran is alot more modern really (on the surface at least) than the negative media attention would have you imagine .

yeah man you should defo focus on your PLO and im sure we can set something up.
im really looking to have a group of capable players who can take turn in grinding the games all year long as the games are plentiful...

Fuck it, if it was 3 months ago I honestly think I would've chanced it for the summer. I'd imagine petty crime rates would be very low in Iran so you just have to fade getting mixed up in any political or religious affairs and you'd be grand I'd say. From talking to people that have been to 2nd and 3rd world countries, nearly all have said it's been fine. Again, so long as you don't have any political agenda and mind your own business.

I assume no risk of the games being crooked? What is the banter like at the table (serious question)? Is it one of those games where if you win a pot or put a bad beat on someone you feel like you might get stabbed (I've played games in Ireland like this, so if the answer to this is yes, it's not necessarily because it's in Iran!)?
i have a ligit business in Iran and can maintain a cover for the regular trips under it with no hassle what so ever.

while there defo are some crooked games,as i said ive been playing them for 3 years and have weeded out all the bad ones.
the ones i play now you will get paid next day all your winning in your chosen account.

the games are pretty lively in terms of banter ,and while the banter is 99% retarded,it does make for a lively game.
having some one foreign on the table is quit a novelty and always well received.
to the extent where some ppl just wanna play cuz there is an Irish fallow at the table who speaks English.

to date ive not seen nor heard of any physical incident at the table due to some one winning or losing.
as i said there have been winners who didn't get paid(your truly) and losers who didn't pay up but no physical confrontations.

yes you will need a visa which you can obtain from Iranian embassy in dublin(its in Blackrock).

you will not have any problems going to states after wards at all.
we only have a problem with Israel.
if you have been to Israel or you intend to go then i would not recommend coming to Iran at all.

I don't know anything about how the authorities act on gambling, I do remember I couldn't get on to any sites directly but I can say that of all the oddball countries I've spent time in I haven't felt so safe anywhere else. The one dodgy situation I did run into over probably 8 weeks there was so innocent I just walked away from the potential thieves laughing at them.

The regime in power there is batshit crazy and utterly repugnant but you will find the ordinary people fantastic so if you can keep your opinions on the way the place is run to yourself until you get on the plane home you'll have no bother.

lol jesus, it actually sounds tempting. If nothing else, having a story about that time you went to Iran to play PLO house games would surely be priceless. Unfortunately I don't think I could afford 8 weeks away any time soon, would like to hear more info though, these games in a distant land always spark my interest. PM if you want.

you don't need to be that good ,you just have to find players who are that bad

    no risk of this happening.
us Iranians are ...well, very stubborn shall we say.

the games are self dealt house games.
you will roughly be playing between 7 to 10 hours most days.
there are games that run around the clock but that's not where you will be starting but defo something down the line .

i'm looking for ppl to start as soon as possible and to commit to at least 8 weeks even though it doesn't have to be in one stretch.(you can go home and come back)
you will be staying with my self in my flat.(providing you don't smell obv)
if we travel to the bigger games then will stay in a hotel.

its really as safe as any other country to be honest.

while Iran does not bare a good rep (and not for nothing) as long as your not a political activist then your fine.

the legal punishment for gambling(should you be caught in the act) is a fine and while iv'e been playing these games for 3 years, there has only been one incident where police knocked on the door and we paid him off and that was that.

if you know Reilly110 from here you can get his perspective on games and on Iran in general as he spent about 6 weeks here with me.

while the trip will be a working one ,Iran is actually a pretty decent country to visit .

if you are interested or know of any one who may be please either pm me or drop me a line here.
you will need some sort of proof of your competency obv and if your good at Chinese poker its a distinct advantage.
let me know if you have any questions and i shall answer .
