Quick geography question - without using google or GPT etc., what Asian country has been colonised three times and is the world's largest exporter of cinnamon?

I was in one of the Moldovan shops and saw they've shelves of mustards. They're likely not Maille, but does anyone happen to know if there's any standouts worth trying.

Where do all these HS poker guys come from? Like that guy Taras?

Meant a bit more when it was a small number of people playing the 200/400 games. Now it seems like there's hundreds of people happy to gamble up a few hundred k.

Any Recommendations for a day or two off in Kampala?

Was brought out for an excellent Indian tonight in an unlikely looking place in a mall. Been mostly eating Indian, the local food is only ok, the green banana is just tasteless carbs. The fruit and nuts and avocados are great.

Not too sure really. I was only there for a couple of days and was mostly out drinking with a friend who lived there.

The Lawns game restaurant was good, but probably not worth going too far out of your way for.

Yeah the local food isn't great, was a big let down after being in Ethiopia.

Popped into the pop-up restaurant by Liath in Blackrock market today. Two things on the menu, both a tenner. A pulled pork sandwich and chicken tacos. Went for the chicken tacos. Handmade tacos, this beautiful subtle sweetcorn sauce, then grilled chicken and an 'el chapo' sauce. A weird dish - I wasn't sure what my thoughts were on it at the time. Like it was good, but I wasn't sure how good. But over the day since it has just grown and grown. A special place for anyone in the area. They've different dishes every week so the tacos are doneso, but based on today whatever they replace it with will be class also. The pulled pork sandwich looked ridic good. Everything ready in a few minutes as they prep everything in the morning in the Liath kitchen.

Also received a niche bit of advice that might help someone over the next few months. Was mentioning to the bakery guy that hayfever was killing me and the tablets were no use, and he goes that what you need to do is take an anti-histamine every day not just on the days when you have hayfever.

I did double-check this in the pharmacy, just in case the bakery guy didn't pass sufficient pharmaceutical courses in uni and they were saying - yep, that's what you do. Is this general knowledge?

Had just assumed hayfever tablets were for when you have hayfever, but really they're for preventing hayfever in the first place.

Baker could be right in fairness.

Had HF or some allergy replicating HF for years.

Once the sneezing started, that was it, utterly fucked for the day....constant sneezing and dripping nose with subsequent headache

Zirtek to the rescue back then ...now I take Cetrine.
However I can go a year or 2 without so that's kind of weird.
On it again just recently as have had a few an issue with pruritis that I'm hoping to isolate

                                                *
Cetrine much cheaper than Zirtek by the way as it's the generic version.

We are not sure how it learns, what it knows, when it improves, what it is capable of, and a host of other stuff. It seems crazy that the cutting edge of technology is at the fingertips of everyone.

On a tangential note. Have you seen any of the short films which people are creating? Thinking about the progression of imagery that I posted the other day, imagine where this will be in a year.

As an aspiring filmmaker, this is as soul-crushing as it is exciting. I think for most people AI inspires a similar kind of emotional dissonance, but this video hit me like an 18 wheeler.

This was clearly made by somebody with a unique creative vision and a good sense of humor, but the fact that it was created on a computer in probably a couple of hours is disturbing. A production of this quality done in real life would probably take millions of dollars and several months to complete.

I think this signals yet another evolutionary moment for filmmaking as an artistic medium, like the advent of digital cameras did before this. High-concept films will probably become a lot easier to make, and filmmakers will get the opportunity to realize concepts that before they could only dream of (especially since streaming has made the whole industry a lot more risk-averse to begin with).

But I can’t help but feel for the countless people who work on film sets. So many of the things which were done almost flawlessly in this short video are usually accomplished by the work of hundreds of professional artists: lighting, camerawork, set design, makeup, wardrobe, not to mention actors themselves. Those jobs won’t just disappear, they’ll become redundant in the eyes of an industry that has always been about profits at the end of the day.

I understand that AI is essentially the logical conclusion of human technological progress, but I’m still deeply uncomfortable with this. I hate to sound like a Luddite but movies are my life. I just hope that human-created films will still have a place in tomorrow’s world.

Was rewatching 12 Angry men recently - I dont think AI could create the nuance in the characters personalities . The appreciation of the soul of creativity relies on its human connection . AI can't provide that as it's Artificial. We won't listen to poetry generated be something that can't feel it's own words . So AI may be able to skilfully match and exceed many artistic genres and styles. It cannot ever soulfully match it. I will add that humans seem to be less concerned about this in 2023 then in 2003 - look around. Hopefully a 2nd renaissance will happen and the vulnerability that comes with being an emotional being will drives us to get back to a skilled artistic 'human' approach to art as opposed to a production line facsimile

Also pretty much zero warmth to the service in there. Kind of crazy to think that €90 a head almost seemed like good value.

The current crew in High Stakes poker that is airing at the moment is Esfandiari and five absolute whales who are also pretty nitty. It is terrible poker to watch. It is such a pity cause Schulman has taken over the commentary in which he and AJ have a decent rapport going and can be very funny together but the group of players is a disaster. The game is so boring without a mixture of top players in it. The issue is that the top players have become so good no one wants them in the games and it seems for the most part the whales now get to decide who sits in the games with them. For a more general audience that Hustler seems to be aiming at all people want to see is the biggest stakes possible which the whales provide.

There are a lot of assumptions here and no real argument. You could sum it up as art has always been a certain way (created by humans), and I can't imagine a world in which it isn't.

How exactly is that physically manifested? It almost seems like something that needs to be an article of faith.

But for me, the argument that 'only humans can be truly creative' is total bollocks. Like totally get Nick Cave's recent angry response to the AI-generated 'Nick Cave' lyrics, but I just disagree with his conclusions.

I can compare myself to that and marvel at it, marvel at the idea that there are people out there with that ability.

I can compare myself to that and marvel at it, marvel at the idea that there are people out there with that ability.

The novelty of AI's capabilities will wear off.

                                                                                                                      It's 'art' will be boring.

I imagine the calculator blew people's minds at one point.

Cure cancer and fuck off away from art IMHO.

I can see how you might not develop an emotional attachment toward the creator of AI music the way you do to a band or musician, but that's kind of meta art; it's not really the art itself. For example, if you are watching a film and think the soundtrack is great, would it spoil it slightly afterwards if you found out it wasn't human-created?
