I think I told the story here before about the BBC. Many years ago I was in the college bar talking to a girl who had interned in the BBC. On her first day of induction she was told not to be in a room alone with Rolf Harris, that he was a bit handsy. She was told in the same manner as you would get given directions to the bathroom and the printer. I took it with a pinch of salt at the time. But years later we had operation yewtree.
The link is that Brands producer and PA for the guts of 10+ years was also in college at the same time (likely on the same course as the other woman).
I kinda take it as given that many famous people get given a blind eye to keep the show rolling. It's only when the star loses their luster than people feel like they can speak out. Even then people don't want to know

Also, had an argument earlier with somebody slaging off the RNLI.
Got heated to the point where I wanted to throw digs left, right and center as I had to explain that regular, ordinary people, volunteer to put their lives at risk to rescue people, people, who in this case were drunk operating a boat and slaging off the RNLI for intervening.
Was at an event with Mrs Lao Lao which made me not create a complete scene but it was the closest I've come to not just destroying them verbally but also giving them a few slaps for being a complete and utter fucking tools.

I haven’t seen whatever exposé has aired about Brand. But assume as it’s clearly criminal in nature it’s some form of sexual assault/rape. I’d be surprised if it was a drug thing though, given his history of heroin addiction.

Speaking of mixed games, I shipped the PL Badugi WCOOP side event on Friday for $1200 or so.. Kinda learnt how to play it as I went on. Also received my SCOOP HORSE trophy in the post last week after what some are describing as the greatest HORSE play since the 'Rock boys competed for the Ko Samui Cup

Brand stuff is pretty bad. The investigation seems pretty on point. I’m sure there will be more and more coming out.
Him describing the attacks as “baroque” is the strangest choice of word though. This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

Fiji prop fumbles the ball forward trying to hit a gap.
Commentator says "the big man got too excited seeing the gap...."
Does that kind of comment get made in ladies rugby? If it was a big heavy female prop, would "the big girl" comment be made?
I have no idea, and it just sort of occurred to me, but it feels like it'd be offside for a commentator of a ladies game to say that about girls. Maybe thats my inner patriarchy speaking.
This is absolutely not a "oh they want equality huh" post. This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

SPOILERFollowing the scandal, Brand moved to Los Angeles, where he focused on a Hollywood film career and a new American TV show. He remained in LA after his marriage to Perry failed in 2012.
At a party one night he met Nadia, a businesswoman who was then in her thirties. They exchanged numbers and Brand later got in touch and they began texting and talking on the phone. She said they met up in June 2012 at his house in LA and went on to have consensual sex, but she was unsettled by his “glazed-over look”.
“He does this thing when he glazes over . . . I don’t know what’s going on in his head,” she says. “It was fine, but it was a weird first-time experience with someone when you’re having sex with them for the first time.”
During one text exchange Brand suggested that Nadia “bring a friend”.
They then met again in the early hours of the morning of July 1, when she arrived at his house after he had pleaded with her to come over.
“When I walked in — the door was unlocked and I just walked in,” Nadia says. “He comes running out of the bedroom naked. And I’m kind of taken aback. I’ve got a bag on my shoulder, a little dress and a coat on top.”
Nadia says Brand took her to a wall and kissed her and made a comment, something along the lines of: “I’ll keep you safe.” He then told her that “a friend” was already in the bedroom and that he wanted her to join them, according to Nadia.
“I’m like, no, that’s not happening, I don’t care, that’s not happening, we’re not doing that,” she says. “I tried to get away from him and I slipped away from the wall. And then I went to another wall that had a painting on it. A huge painting. And my bag got actually stuck underneath that, and it’s still on my arm. And at this point he’s grabbing at my underwear, pulling it to the side.”
Nadia alleges that she told Brand to get off her and that she wanted to leave, but he carried on. “I’m stuck underneath the painting and he’s pushing up against me,” she says. “He’s a lot taller than me. And he has that glazed look in his eye again. And I can’t move. And I told him, ‘Get off, get off.’” Nadia claims that Brand pushed her up against the wall and raped her, without a condom.
Brand finally finished and she says she pushed him away.
“And then he blocks the door that I’ve come into because he doesn’t want me going,” Nadia says. “He’s like, ‘Are you OK?’ I’m like, ‘No I’m not OK, you need to get away from me.’ And he’s like, ‘Let’s calm down.’”
Nadia says that Brand eventually stepped away from the door he had been blocking after Nadia told him she wanted to use the bathroom.
“I ran out and I jumped in my car — thank God I didn’t park in his driveway — and booked it out of there,” she says. “That was it. I sat on the road a little bit longer. I was in a daze.”
At 3.29am, Brand sent Nadia a text message. He wrote: “I’m sorry. That was crazy and selfish. I hope you can forgive me, I know that you’re a lovely person. X.” He tried phoning her at 3.51am, but the call went unanswered.
Nadia says she was up most of the night. She did not reply to Brand’s text until 10.59am. She wrote that he had taken advantage of her and “scared the shit out of me”. She wrote in her text to Brand: “Do you know how scary [you are] when that glaze look comes over. When a girl say[s] NO it means no. Do I have to go and get myself tested?”
Brand replied that he was “very sorry” and wrote: “You don’t need to get tested. I will make this up to you somehow with live [sic] and kindness. Not my original idea which was more sex. You’ve been lovely to me and I’m embarrassed by my behaviour. Sorry. X.”
The US phone number that Brand used to send the messages has been verified by multiple sources.
Nadia, meanwhile, had told a close friend what had happened and she took her to the Rape Treatment Center (RTC) at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center that same day.
She has shared a full copy of her treatment records, which state that she provided her underwear and other samples as evidence, which were frozen. An officer from the Los Angeles Police Department was alerted by the centre, according to the notes, but she chose not to make a police report — saying to the centre she “didn’t think my words would mean anything up against his”. The notes also state that “she was worried that, if her assailant’s name is somehow released, then her name will be dragged through the dirt”."I can’t find anyone who agrees with what I write or think these days, so I guess I must be getting closer to the truth." - Hunter S. I know people are dying and its really easy to say that behind a keyboard on a sunny peaceful Albertan day but it blows my mind that people think Putin will act any differently in 2,5,10 years. or that he will somehow gain respect for red lines if appeased, and especially if the appeasement involves no Ukraine nato.
Christie's position that Ukraine is already a defacto Nato member is sort of how I see it. How can they not be? Using the nato weaponry platform, collecting all this incredible wartime data (which seems a little heartless to say out loud) and engaging with Natos reason for existence.
He got some grief for the pentagon spending thing. I think my own perspective on the US military spending is... increase the shit out of it. I don't pay American taxes, so I don't care and I certainly think the US hegemony is keeping my life in a better spot than any possible alternative.

Even the Irish times getting on the RWC bashing bandwagon now
have to think considering the classes who primarily support rugby that the ritual humiliation of the lower orders is a big part of the enjoyment.
Rugby World Cup is the Downton Abbey of sport. The elites rule
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rug...bbey-of-sport/
hadnt heard about the below- so basically the new tournament is the World Cup with all the cannon fodder and padding removed?
When plans were announced earlier this year for a biennial tournament, involving all 10 of the tier one nations, plus two others (probably Fiji and Japan), the tier two nations were infuriated. The tournament would consume the July and November international windowsWill you ever fuck off with that shite... you are easily one of the worst posters on here for this-Pokerhand

I guess my point was more that I'd much rather the US remain the world police,.
I would also rather that the US remain the largest economy and I'd rather they remain the centre of the banking world, the worlds reserve/trading currency and have the control over trade deals, sanctions and what not. I feel they align with my, and most western countries interests more than China, Russia or India. Not that they will always be lockstep with what I want, but more lockstep than the others.
I think India or China becoming a much larger power is something very possible. Especially China as the northern passages for trade start opening up and they don't have any fear of US trade blockades and such. India is taking strides too. Lucky for the west, India and China will likely never see eye to eye.

My take on it . I love watching Rugby, I love watching soccer, I love watching almost every sports known to man. The most STUCK UP sport by a mile is Golf. I play and watch and love the game but it’s waaaay up it’s own arse. Take the weekend in the wimmins tournament, a player marked her ball on the green then misplaced it by a fraction of a mm. A camera caught it, she was given a FOUR shot penalty. 2 for the mm replacement error and 2 for signing her card with it. Used to be insta disqualification. No real benefit to be had but RULES are RULEs end of story.
Rugby, Soccer, Golf etc all have superb technical exponents of the game that make it great to watch. Some players/teams unfortunately have zero tactical nous so can get hammered along their development path. It usually folk who haven’t played much sport who have the big opinions on it and little consideration for the bigger picture. Meh.
However what the fk does Joe Soap care if he is being entertained? If you are not switch off. The merit of winning the RWC is unaffected by your switching off or on. The achievement is huge for a country. Invictus was probably one of the great sporting movies. Not really a mention of the early round feeding on the weak in the herd too much. But the glory of the historic Victory was hair-raising.
One of the great sporting moments of that time.
In the US Open tennis (another elitist sport) final I was loving the game until Med surrendered mentally. Shocking. It would be great if these folk were as great as Djok (only the goat on numbers) but alas.
At all their peaks , I think Fed tops and beats them all. Just my view. I won’t be calling for it to be banned though lol. Djork is beating the new kids and the former also rans types that Fed and Nadal used to feed on. One of the greatest but if numbers is your argument for GOAT then Tiger must bow down to Jack.

However, for the coming years and decades of the 21st century, the demographic transition in China will constitute a major constraint on the growth of Chinese power. A working-age population that peaked in 2011 at more than 900 million will have declined by nearly a quarter, to some 700 million, by mid-century. These workers will have to provide by then for nearly 500 million Chinese aged 60 and over, compared with 200 million today. America’s social security challenges seem like a policy picnic by comparison."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."
