    Your internet provider

Hello all. I play online poker and I am finding my internet provider(UPC) to be very dodgy. I actually cannot play on the wireless router they have provided and even when plugged in it has been disconnecting a lot lately, I rang their customer service and they say nothing is wrong but it is costing me money and making me frustrated. I am paying €49.99 per month for this shocking service
I am from North Dublin, I am wondering if anyone can recommend me any reliable and better internet provider for a similar/cheaper price as I really need to change it

I thought about that, but I don't want to keep giving this stupid cheapass company €50 a month when they have given us a horrible router

assuming you live in an area with a fair few upc users, just change the channel on your router
Go to Setup -> Wireless -> Basic and change "New Channel" from auto to the channel number you want to switch to. As simple as that.
People say I should be more humble I hope they understand, they don't listen when you mumble

Move to the south side imo, everything is better over here including isps.

Yeah, try and get to the bottom of it before you switch because you could end up going to all the trouble of changing providers only to have the same problem.

I just got a new phone and when it's connecting to my router it's knocking off my laptop, I think it could be replicating the IP address on both devices so I have to try and figure out how to stop it doing that.
            (Anyone any ideas?)

Once I have my phone disconnected from my wifi there is no problem.

I also had problems in the evenings right after the baby was put to bed, after a couple of nights I figured it was the baby monitor, so a change of channel fixed that.

I downloaded a program called inSSIDer which tells me what channel all the neighbouring routers are on, only was was on 11(mine), I changed anyway to see if it was any better and it isn't.
I rang them and they are telling me that something is blocking the signal and they don't know what that is. I have to get it re-installed somewhere else in the house then hope that it works from there, paying €60 in the process... she genuinely said "hope it works"!

Am guessing UPC is popular among you all since nobody suggested anything else, guess I'll just buy a booster/router. Thanks for the tips

Use ethernet cable. Wifi sucks with UPC routers.

i think upc is the best internet provider on the market. if you are playing poker its advised to have a dongle as back up already pluged in but not yet connected.

maybe cut out the tranny porn streams while you are playing and you be fine

-Connect your pc/laptop via an ethernet cable and run speedtest a couple of times (Results should be similiar)http://www.speedtest.net/ take note of your speeds and your ping (make sure your not downloading while running the test)
                    - Now disconnect and connect through your wireless again run the speedtest again, i would expect worse results and if you run it a few times you may see varying results
-Change channel in your router settings and repeat the process till you find the best channel (router may need to be reset after each channel change for changes to take effect)

I would expect this will fix your issues if not invest in a better router one below is about €53
I had years of similiar issues and swiched from eircom to vodafone and back again, went through 7 different cheap routers provided by both and still had issues. Most forums blamed cheap routers provided by service providers for the majority of issues. Bought the router below and never have trouble now

you could give your laptop a static ip address, should sort it
when u have a number of devices connected your router gives them an ip address in the order they connect eg 192.168.1.1 for your first device 192.168.1.2 for your second and so on so by giving an address say 192.168.1.100 u should never have a conflict (Ip's may be numbered slightly different depending on router)
should be step by step guides for doing this depending on your operating system

Hopefully it will get sorted for you. I only moved out to the north side a couple of month ago and have gone with UPC. Internet has been working very good so far (hope I don't jinx it now), but there have been some issues with the TV signal.

had someone come out today to see what the problem was, I showed him the speedtest results of 63 when we are paying for 120. I had done the test 4 times over the space of an hour and 63 was highest when connected. He connected to the upc which gave 86 but still nowhere near the 120!

The wireless won't work in this house, it was put in in the extension and the old end wall of the house is blocking the signal, I apparently have to go get "Twin Powerline Starter Kit" and another router for it to work within the house as a booster alone might still not work... sigh
Thanks for the advice anyway everyone, had tried a lot!

I use these, have my router upstairs and xbox downstairs. Quicker than wireless and saves me the bother of using a 25m ethernet cable.
