All the smart money is on oleras to go back to back, seems to be huge stable confidence behind him and he's reportedly eaten up like a savage. A few whispers on the track too for admirable stayer strewelpeter who's consistently competitive on this ground, stays all day and won't mind the muck at all.
Dice75 and elbows are two former champions who have been bang out of form recently but might revive at their favourite track. Gimmeabreak has been talked up in the racing media as a potential superstar for many years now but he's never made good on that talk in this event and looks an unlikely winner.
Of the rest, Hitch often puts in a frontrunning shift on Day 1 but stamina is a major problem for this one and he'slikely to be gone by the business end. Ionapaul is always in there pitching at the end but just doesn't seem to have it in him to go through with a winning effort. Jibzzz, luckforsome and Lplate often come with a flattering run but just don't seem to handle the hill at all while Dead Parrott often finds trouble in running. The remainder look hopelessly out of their depth although there will be sentimental support for former great The Situation but this old timer looks short of recent practice.

No elbows-style escaping from the field on Day 1 today but a newcomer holds the clubhouse lead with a healthy advantage; take a bow, carlinrose. Not intimidated by the occasion at all and it will be fascinating to see can he retain this gallop tomorrow. In behind, frequent disappointment Raoul Duke III is lurking a few lengths off the pace but it would take a brave man to take short odds against this gelding, given his obvious tempermental frailties.
Strewelpeter defied his age with a brief turn at the front but was quickly overhauled by a trio of speedsters, Hitch, Lemon Lover and Silver Tiger, who all took turns doing the donkey work at the head of the pack. In truth though, it's still a highly congested field with a lot of the shrewd stables like Gimmeabreak, The Aul Switcheroo and luckforsome lurking in midfield before unleashing a burst. Dual winner The Situation is likewise marking time in the pack with our reigning champignon oleras.

No real hard luck stories today and 93% of the collective starting bank remains intact heading into Day 2. A few of the back markers are in danger of being outclassed on the second circuit with the likes of Jibzzz and Solksjaer hoping the pace collapses.

The day's free bet €25 award goes to ionapaul, mainly for the grovelling nature of his apology for his minor table fail. Post up your selection in the thread by 1PM please.
