Top Try Scorer still alive - Damian Penaud looks guaranteed something but needs at least 1 try to have a chance of a clean 4 points rather than a share.
Hugh Keenan and Antoine Dupont each have one try so far so need two more tomorrow to have any chance of points.

GAA Division 3 is nearly over, last round of group games is next weekend, and the final (possibly televised) will be on the weekend of 2nd/3rd April.
4-2-1 points up for grabs, with the 4-2 decided by the final which I think will be between Limerick (pokerhand) and unselected Louth, with popular pick Westmeath maybe getting third.
But I'm surprisingly ignorant of the tie-breakers if teams finish level, so we'll see,

I'm hopeful that Men's tennis will be more 'open' going forward with Nadal and Djoko coming to the end of their careers. Like I could never leave Roland Garros completely out of this competition but Nadal being 4/5 fav every year in a 128 player field meant I had to use the women's comp instead.

edit: Hah #2, I've just seen what brought this rant on. She always looked a fun girl who'd be happier backpacking her way round Europe partying. I'm glad she's getting out with a bundle of money and her health.

I suspect I'd be in the same boat as most - on solid ground on soccer, and reasonably knowledgeable about tennis and golf. Pretty clueless about baseball/aussie rules/ice hockey/basketball,volleyball.
I'm not sure there's much of a skill edge to be had anyway - it's probably akin to my Dads old rant about how 'they'd bet on two flies running up a wall'. Having said that there does seem to be a loose trend of the same names appearing at the top of the leaderboard each year.

Its like everything, you get out what you put in. For example i do next to zero research on FF and just pick a team for the interest every week. Ive zero hope without putting in the research however i still play for the interest. Stupid really but i know how its going to pan out and say to myself . I'll do more next week etc. Never do.
The names at the top put the effort in so deserve the loots .

If your stuck for an event next year F1 is it actually entertaining again with the crazy turbo boost for overtaking.

This is a great comp as it takes away the urge to punt on random sports which as results show would not exactly make me rich.

Probably the same reason the real gamblers stay away from it.

it's still only a 3 horse race though. one extra horse this year. don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan, and it's still a long season to go, but it's still a very narrow competitive field

Basketball

Just 3 selections between us this year and all safely into the playoffs which start tomorrow night.
One-time good things Brooklyn struggled to get there as a mere 7th seed and have drifted to 8/1.
Phoenix Suns had the best regular season record and are 5/2 favs. Golden State (also 8/1) would meet Phoenix in the semi-finals if all keep winning.
The playoffs are best of 7 games all the way, and the 7th game of the final will be Jun 19th if any of our selections get that far.

Ice-Hockey

A big range of selections this year. There's about 2 weeks (6/7 games) left in the regular season before the play-offs which start May 2nd.
Looks like all our selections will make the play-offs, with the only doubt being Last Vegas (luckforsome) who need to make up 2 points on the teams ahead of them over the final few games.
Playoffs will again be best of 5 or best of 7 or something. The Stanley Cup finals will be the last week of June. With so many picks someone will surely get there.
Colarado are 4/1 favs, which suggests it's all still fairly open.

Aussie Rules

Just 4 games into the 22 game regular season before the top 8 go into play-offs.
Melbourne an overwhelming pick this year and so far it looks correct as they are 4 from 4.
Geelong with 3 wins have started fine as well, but Richmond and Bulldogs have ground to make up already.
Playoffs will be all of September with the Grand Final on the 24th.
