Herb St beside the Bord Gais is nicer imo than the three you mentioned which I've been to:

Little Bird
Brother Hubbard
Meet me in the morning

We have a team thing tomorrow night in Fire on Dawson St, I don't generally bother as I commute but thoughts on the place.
Is it worth a visit?

Ate in fire about 2 weeks ago. It was the most underwhelming meal I've ever eaten. Everything bog standard and staff poor. Have never felt robbed leaving a place before but felt it was much too expensive for what we got.

The room is fantastic, which is as good as it gets.

Think GAB said they do a decent Sunday roast but I wouldnt return for any reason tbh.

Nice one, I'll likely leave it off then.

If it was excellent and in light of it being free I'd make it my business to go but if I'm not missing out I'll pass.

Is that new place in the Orangery or somewhere else in the estate? Got married there and due to return for a stay, must still have vouchers knocking around the place

Orangery and Trellis Cafe remain intact. Aimsir seems to be opening in the old cookery school? It's the building on the left as you walk out to the canal.

That looks like its 430 for a couple, which wouldn't be too bad... not that I'm ever paying a couple of hundred for a hotel room when my own bed is within range!

Anyone here stayed/eaten in Moy house, heard a good review today but not sure on that persons style always good to get a second opinion. I really like Gregans Castle and Old Convent so if it’s like that I’d be happy.

Went on Saturday night, thanks to the recommendation, had a lovely dinner and some lovely wine. Pork croquettes, mussels, and monkfish were all excellent.

For some reason I thought this was out in the country.

Will make a visitation but first up will be a return to Osteria Lucio.

Just a quick review.
Granted it was a Wednesday night but the place was completely devoid of atmosphere and was essentially a posh eddie rockets.
My starter was overseasoned blackfish and my main a t bone pork chop served with crumbed black pudding, mash and some gravy of sorts along with an a bone that could generously be described as a t in some miniature elvish font.
It was throughly unremarkable in just about every aspect

Sorry, I didn't see your original message on Dillingers before now.

I've said it before, either here or in the BBV, can't remember which but I'd consider Dillingers to be a brunch place, nothing more, defo wouldn't be booking it for dinner.

OL is decent, funnily enough the last time I was there with a group, the person who booked it advised us to avoid the mezzo plate as the last time he was there the goruo got food poisoning! I thought it odd that he booked it again... pizzas are lovely though.

My interpretation of “ more of a brunch place” is bit like unsophisticated or rustic, in that they cook ok and can get away with overpricing for eggs but charging over the odds for dinner would be taking the piss. Whitefrier grill would be idea of that.

Just saw this now, have eaten in both but only stayed at Moy house - It's hard to compete with Gregans on the food side of things Moy house do it well but it's not at that standard. That's not to be critical food was very good but simpler.

The atmosphere in both is somewhat similar - good relaxed away from it all kind of thing. I love the sea so the sea views sell me on Moy house. I also quite like that it's that bit more relaxed in terms of the tone of service and just generally more country house than formal. I think Moy house only have a handful of rooms and don't do dinner for non residents so availability can be an issue.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks, that’s very helpful. Have you been to the Old Convent?
