In all races (except sprints) the 'rhythm' the horse gets into is paramount. Too free, you don't get home... niggling early.. it's a long way home!

Every horse has his own way of travelling in a race. It's important that you know the makeup of the horse... ie If you back a horse that has not settled in his last couple of races and you see him/her switch off nicely, this makes a massive difference to the chances of a win. In a chase, if a horse has not been jumping cleanly in his last couple of runs and you see him/her pinging fences and travelling, again a massive advantage to that horse's chance. Many years ago I performed horse racing commentary, so I feel I have a good eye to take this information on board very quickly.
You are talking the ...... right?

I remember when I was 19 I went into a boyles all innocent, never having bet in a bookies before in my entire life

so I am looking at these races, all greyhound races. Bet on 2 and no joy, then I pick a beauty, can't remember the name but it was t_____ tim, remember the alliteration and the name tim. He's #2, lovely starting position and off he goes, flies out the track!! He is ahead, never looks like losing and romps home to victory

I go up to cash it in a few minutes later, & I swear on my life this happened. They wouldn't cash in my bet because I had the name and not the number. I had the name of the dog!!!!!
f***ing ba****ds - you'd think that would have stopped me - bet for the whole day and lost the roll. FML

          True story
I heard about something like that a while ago.... (don't know which bookies it was!). Ridiculous that they would do this. (bags) dog racing receives a very poor standard of information on bookmaker tiles. Many times I have gone up to read the form, made a selection, placed a bet, then gone up closer to the screen to see a small "(res)" follow my dogs name! But if I had of written the dogs name I would be on a non runner instead of the 14/1 rag! (equates to about 50/1 in horse racing levels) I suppose it's all I deserve betting in a market where the over rounds are massively in the bookies favour.

As Phil said, delay isn't an issue, in shop they both view on the same screen.

But watching it over digital at home is a huge delay, cable slightly less so. You are losing a massive edge here verses trackside or the big punters with private SIS
if you watch rte on the sky signal, its a few seconds behind the terrestrail signal,so i would suppose that the sis would be quicker than sky as well.tbh i can see the whole betting landscape changeing in a big way in ireland over the next few years,i just cant see the irish goverment hitting health budgets etc.and leaveing the bookmakers alone.it wasnt that long ago when there was 10% tax on every bet,if that comes back and the bookmaker passes on the full tax to the punter, you might have no option but to invest a few quid into sis and take the b/f commission on the chin
                      Mattie McGrath wanna-be

Yeah, when I was saying digital i was refering to sky.
