    Full time gambling

What do you reckon, is it possible to make a living gambling (excluding poker) full time? I know the stats say about 10% of people are long term winners at poker, but what % are winning long term at sports betting? Is anyone here doing it professionally?

There's a knack to winning long term, and that's dependent on having a betting exchange account, and a detailed knowledge of odds changes at certain times of the event.

For instance I'm not too far off the mark knowing what a wicket will do to the market, or the run line. Knowing things like this allow you to set up enough back bets/lays to get the money while it's there etc.

If you can find a copy of the Betfair Guide (for Dummies) you'll find you're improving your chances of profit.

Stick to markets you know too, never wade into something just because the prices look nice.
Hey buddy, did ya get that thing I sent ya?

I would say it is less than 2% are winners imo, I am in the 98% category.

The exchanges are run by 2 type of bots.
        1) is the trading arbing bots that basically drives prices and run to zero risk
        2) is the statistical programmes that basically have a team of compilers using the most advanced software to compile the real prices and get as much on at the wrong price that they can. 1 example is Zeliko Ranogajec-has a huge team of experts using the best tech to get the sweep in every sport.
This is why Betfair brought in the Premium Charge, basically the likes of Zeliko were getting bigger than the actual exchange and that is no exageration.

As for punting professionally, Id advise to pick a speciality sport or market and concentrate on that as theres too much work to be done on your own.

Also funny story, a friend knows someone that had a horse that won a Southwell seller, the trainer never fancied it and the owner never fancied it. The horse was punted from high 20s to 4s on the machine, after the horse had won my mate asked the owner wow that was some gamble did u get the sweep???, the owner said he and the trainer never ha d apenny on it, we were later told a certain Canadain Racing Punter based in London was all over it, although hard to believe its the team of computer nerds that wouldnt know what a horse looked like that are basically cleaning up.

I'm a firm believer of u can make a living from gambling!!
I would consider myself to have quite a good knowledge of sports, the most profitable being, Soccer, GAA, Golf and Snooker. I would say If you can have discipline and study form, shop around for best prices etc. the results will have you in profit!
If I could just stop there

However, I think I have become an expert in the space of a few days and no matter what I gamble on I can win! I will start betting on Darts, Rugby, Tennis etc. with little or no knowledge.

Slowly but surely the profits dwindle and if I I'm in a hurry to lose money I just back horses!!

I'm sure so many punters can relate to this!! well at least i hope they can

            To make €50k a year (€1k a week).
At a 5% profit margin you need to bet €20k a week, or about €3k a day every day of the year. I doubt 5% profit is achievable.
Of course you need the bank to cover fluctuations, and the ability to get on.

This, in my opinion, is the single most difficult obstacle to seriously profitable gambling. If restricted accounts didn't exist, there would be many more professional sports/racing punter in operation.

                Depends on the sport.
Football punter has no prob getting on.
An Irish Racing punter, the hardest part is getting on.

yes of course it is possible to make a living. but it's gonna be really really hard for random joe X to one day wake up and say i want to become a professional gambler (sports-betting). if u liken it to trading finanacial markets for a living then you have to have all those attributes and qualities that make up the package for the long term successful trader which will prove to be a small % of the total. some of those qualities are patience, acuteness/intelligence, specialist knowledge, nerve, stamina, extreme mental wherewithal/fortitude, experience, flexibilty, discipline and so on and still u need the the other bit of x-factor to be near the top of the top.
good luck to anyone who tries. don't feel bad if it goes wrong as a boss once said to me when he was giving me the boot ''many a good man hasn't made it before u''.

Incorrect, it doesn't matter what you're betting on. If your account is in the black you will be restricted regardless, unless they feel you are privy to info and can therefore make extra profit for themselves......
