    Rio Olympics 2016

Time to look into the biggest sporting event on the planet and have some fun with the more obscure sports.

to kick it off, so far i've gone with the Brazilian double in the volley ball. both the mens and the womens are favorites but competition is there from the US and China. The crowd will play a massive part in this. double pays around 9/2

Also gone for Ku Bon Chan to get a medal in the mens archery. He's the youngest of the South Korean, but has consistently been in the top 4 over the last year. at 7/4, i think this is great value and he's coming into this with a silver at the world championships.

Also followed blindly on Elbows bet of Broderick in the show jumping at 66/1

And if anyone sees a diving special for China to win all the events, let me know!

    Just an early trebles/accum.

    Katie Taylor 4/5
    Cerutti/Schmidt men's beach vball 11/4
    Portugal men's soccer 17/2
    Fiji Men 7's rugby 15/8

A brilliant second clear round on Zuidam, in 40.07 seconds, saw him claim the majority of the €15,000 prize fund on offer

            General 7/4 - 2/1 shot yet 5/2 on Stars

They have the Fav @ 13/20 yet available at Evs elsewhere. I'm thinking they don't update their obscure markets as often as they should. Might be worth remembering.

              Archery...........by popular demand ( 1 person)

Boardman ( mexican lad ) bad closer at times but never far away from beating anybody. hopefully he brings his A game a little. ranking round 28th. worry is he is mexican not a traditonal stronghold for the long dart. def capable of a medal though. big odds.

Interesting one is rick van der ven. lost the playoff for medal last time and natural progress should be closer. Highly rated im just not sure he progressed that much. Ranking round 27th. Dutch have a strong team this time around. he is better than berg whos priced more so on his 4th ranking.

Patrick Huston.if this comes too soon maybe but he has talent ( 20) downside he is british. ranking round 38th.

the koreans should have got better again they earmark this for medals but anybody can be beat on the day. gone with higher odds but capable

edit ****huston plays rick omit one so****** will chalk off huston

For the sculling/rowing markets at Rio, the choppiness of the Rio course adds a lot of variability. The 3rd 500m of the course is worst, and stronger teams/athletes should adjust, however things become a lot less predictable, as you are at the mercy of waves.

Fiji won the Hong Kong and USA tournaments this year. Hong Kong is the most prestigious and the USA one is a big one too. They also won in Dubai in the first tournament of the 15/16 season. I think they are a great price at 15/8 to win it.

The biggest danger is New Zealand who also won three tournaments. South Africa would be third favourites for me. They can beat anybody on their day but they seem to get a lot of injuries during tournaments and are weak come the SF's and Final if they get there. The only won one tournament in 15/16. I definitely would not be backing them but they could win it, they have the talent, if their squad stays healthy through the tournament.

Long way to go obviously but both aus and nz lost their first game to France and Japan respectively

Aus in the same group as SA, so could be a tough ask at this stage. Nz have a slightly easier group though.

Put a few bob on this - 200/1 for the straight win & 28/1 for a top 5.

Seems like an infidel would be tempting fate by betting on the power of Mohammed.

The golf is hard to call most of the favourites are out of form and you should be able to write off a good chunk of the field. I think reports says the course will play easily so its down to putting really.

Main Bet Going with Danny Lee
Kaymer and jutangnguran in a double for m&f

FRL manassero and harrington ( both can be hot for a day)

You can get 3/1 on him for a top 20 finish on BF sportsbook. Considering he is biggest elsewhere at 7/4 and as short as 5/6 it seems a nice bet.

He had little chance in the 77's vrs Lu who's the record holder in the snatch and total.

Kazakhstani guy pulled out an incredibly hail mary C&J to take the gold. Breaking a long standing C+J record by a huge amount. Unquestionably on steroids.

Aus in the same group as SA, so could be a tough ask at this stage. Nz have a slightly easier group though.

This is a bit of a mad shout but I have caught the first two games that Australia played in the women's soccer by chance and was very impressed with them. They are a really good passing side. They lost their first game but battered Canada with 22 shots and just couldn't put the ball in the net. Won their last game against some no-hopers 6-1. I was gonna back them for the tournament after they drew with Germany (3rd favs) in their second game but I forgot. They had lead the game 2-0.

After that they got a terrible side of the draw in the QF's with the two favorites USA and Brazil so I left alone. USA just got knocked out which leaves the competition wide open. The do play Brazil tonight who are odds on. I'll admit I haven't a clue how good Brazil are but in the FIFA rankings Australia are ranked higher and Germany are the highest ranked (of the teams left) so hoping they will give them a game and then have a good shot at the tourney. 20's on the exchange at the moment for the tournament.

Edit - Went to penalty shootout last night with Brazil after a 0-0 draw in extra time. Had a penalty to win it after Brazil missed the fifth pen but didn't score and Brazil went on to win it.

The bookies have Jebet slightly odds on and Jepkemoi slight odds against.

Only 3 athletes have posted quicker times this season than Barr's effort yesterday and one of those(the fastest) isn't in the final, so a repeat of that would have him very much in the shake up. Didn't look like lads were holding back for the final either as qualifying places were limited and races were very tight. Obv big final nerves are a factor but he's not the big dog that the market currently suggests he his for top 3.
