Just pulled the trigger on a 100E Farah, Semenya and John Joe Nevin treble there. 8.42 (could prob get better elsewhere but only have money on Patypokers Lolbad sportsbook)
Pure puntage hope it gets up!

Farah would be the riskiest there imo, alot of middle distance runners who have doubled up have really struggled (hard track) and the 5000m looks alot stronger than the 10000m, other two look good. Its a nice price alright.

Thought Jemilo was a tad slim when EE tipped her up the other day she looks the value at 5/1 now. She's run almost a second quicker than anyone on two occasions this season. Semenya looked very strong but the market shift may be a bit of an over reaction.

id say people who backed brazil outright are fuming. not a great watch

I've backed Dejen Gebremeskel in the 5000m €230 at 3.65. Today I backed Isiah Kiplangat Koech €100 at 15s as he looks a threat. If the race is slow and tactical both of these look bad. Also laid Farah v Gebremeskel.

Fwiw I took the last €4 in my Betfair account a few days ago and ran it up to €13.65 with four odds on winners now rolling up on Ekaterina Poistogova in the 800m at 16s.

men's 5000m - what a race we are in for.

I had a good look at this race lastnight before I went to sleep and I have to say it's one of the most interesting and intriguing race of the games so far. I cannot wait for it.

For me I could not back Farah in this race at the current odds. I think he is really really up against it here because there is so much talent here and potential surprises. if he wins this he is truly a legend and fair play to him but I see the value lying in a couple of the others.

of the outsiders...the biggest threats for me are from the oldest man Lagat and a boy half his age, the wondrous Gebrwehit.

Although Gebrwehit looked to struggle in the semi's I think he can run a lot better assuming there's no injury we don't know about and at 25/1 last night with PP pay e/w 1,2,3 I thought it was a great bet for small stakes.

Lagat, what a legend. 12.5on betfair and 10s around. this guy could go close with a storming finish and what drama that would be.

However, I cannot get away from Debremeskel.
At 7/4, I think he's the one to be on. He's done the fastest time this year and with and nice finishing kick to do (which will be needed if the likes of Lagat and Farah are around on the run in).

After much deliberation and having slept on it the main reason I'm siding with Debremeskel is based on the fact that as I watched him come home in both the semi's and the Diamond league last(fastest time this year), AMAZINGLY, he showed little sign of being out of breath while all others had grimaces on their faces.

This could be a false tell but I'm going with my read and figure he has still a bit more to give and if that is so, no matter how good the others run, he's going to be extremely hard to beat.

Tonight for me is all about Pamela Jelimo and Thorkildsen.

I backed Jelimo at 13/8 for this and she went to 11/10 before the semi-final. After the semis though she drifted to 4/1. I seen her semi-final and while it was slower than the other two she was never under any pressure to qualify while winning her heat.

The big reason for the drift is Caster Semenya doing a fast time but Jelimo has twice went well over half a second faster than that this year. The Russian Savinova has looked good too but in this final I expect Jelimo to take control of the race earlier and just keep winding it up and not give those two a chance to beat her. I'm going in again at 5.8 on Betfair because I really believe she is out on her own in this.

Thorkildsen is a champ and is going for his third Olympic gold. His sudden return to form in the qualifiers and the way he took his shirt off afterwards showing off his body makes me think that he believes he is going to win this. When he was like that in the past he was unstoppable.

The 5000m for me is an impossible race to call for the simple reason that we don't know if they are going to run hard or not. If they run hard then Gebremeskel wins it, if they don't run that hard then Farah, if he is fully recovered from his exploits in the 10000m, will win it.
I'd be very afraid of Bernard Lagat too if it is not run hard.

Could have been so different today. If De Jonge had won this morning it was an extra €190 over his place money. Degen would have completed a €120 double. Bo in the diving would have completed a €145 treble. A whooping €450 of oh-so-close-but-no-cigar that could have changed the whole picture.

Spectacular fun though despite the overall loss. Can't wait for this thread in four years time! wp all
absolutely gutted also. had a six fold and a five fold with 8 different selections. Bo was in both and the only one which lost. would have been an 800 quid pay day. worst is, i was in France with no internet so had to wait for the next day to get the results in the papers. <insert GIF Ralph when his heart broke>
