QF 4: House

Player 1

if house is the genre, then deep house is the pick. one of the greatest albums in the genre, and still one of the best albums to chill to

St Germain -Sure thing

I'm in a very mellow mood today, so let's chill with the fleet foxes and goats .love this vid

Player 2

I've been playing this song since I was in college, a long time ago now. It is the perfect House track, the backdrop is an impossibly groovy beat and the song has a real sense of progression as the vocal is slowly released. In nearly twenty years of djing I have never come across a track always gets the entire dancefloor moving. Beautiful.

Global Communication- The Way (Secret Ingredients mix)

For my second pick I was sure I wanted to pick something by Julia Holter. No other artist has excited me as much in recent years. But the problem is which track. Having spent all day listening to her many albums, I feel this is the best introduction to her. It's hard to describe Julia, her music spans many genres and many scenes, but she is an extremely accomplished musician, and utilises a very wide range of instruments to create her art. It's wonderful though, a feast for the senses; all of it music to be experienced rather than understood. You can hear her talk briefly about this paticular track here: https://wolfnotes.org/2017/05/04/jul...on-the-island/

Julia Holter - Lucette Stranded On The Island

I know Saint German are house, but that track barely is. Player 2 takes it on both

Going for Player 1, preferred both picks on first listen. Have to admit I don't know what is and isn't house though so apologies if I'm making a big mistake!

Player 2 wins both for me fairly emphatically.

I never really got deep house music that was so deep it wasn't much cop on the dance floor.

Additionally I never felt guitar really worked with house music (with the very odd notable exception like The Grid or Weatherall mixes of My Bloody Valentine or Primal Scream) so it was a bloodless coup for player 2 really. Fleet Foxes is just a bit bland for my tastes.

I wouldn't have been surprised to hear a lute solo break out. Actually that might have livened it up a bit.

Really really loved that St Germain track, had a tough day in work and that turned things right around for me. It's not house though.

Player 2's genre choice was pure house, loved how it built. Don't remember it from that era but it still brought back some cracking memories.

Do love that Fleet Foxes album and that's a cracking track off it.

Julia Holter song was fabulous, I think I'm in love with her. Definitely seeking more of that.

Taking something away from both players for my playlists but edging this one to Player 2

New rule, no guitars to be sold to beardy hippy hipster Mammy's boys

From now on all guitars to be sold to people with Johnny Unitas haircuts only!

House music is far outside my area of music knowledge. Did not really enjoy either song, but that's a me thing.

Player 2 wins it on the strength of the non-genre track.

I'm on holiday so I don't give a shit but IT'S HOUSE!

Toss up between that and voodoo Ray by "a guy called Gérald"

Wp HJ, big fan of holter myself. She's often been in my shortlist.

@HJ, she's playing a small venue in London in September. Will most likely be going myself.

Oh I'd say that would be amazing. She played here before Christmas but I had to work, what a bad decision that was. I'll definitely go see her soon!
