Party Poker - KO series, Overlays

Some of the early games on Party missed the guarentee's by a long way. Higher buy-ins seem to be hitting them. $1-$22 have been way off. $5 kickoff 10k Gtd needed 2000 and only got 1093, $22 Kickoff was near 300 players short of guarentee. Reg is still open in the K.O series games but looks like overlays in the cheaper buy-ins

some of the $22 and $11 had decent overlays anything cheaper than that didn't get half the players needed for guarentee's. Since they were bounty tourneys overlay went towards the regular prize pool making for some decent prizepool for such small buy-ins.
eg. $2.20 KO had 20k Gtd but only got 3613 so was 16.4k in reg prizepool and $3600 in bountie prizepool first was 2.5k + bounties
worth watching if there are similiar overlays tomorrow and for the rest of the series

just noticed the $215 $1m Gtd was near 1200 players or 1/4 mill short of guarentee, all other higher buy-ins made the guarentee. looks like it could be a costly series for party, is a pity as party have been making some good progress lately

most the KO series games hit the guarantees today but the $2 and $11 KO series games that started at 7:00 look like having big overlays

last night was the end of the series with main event starting at 7pm. I am not sure what the overlays were looking like last night but according to posts on 2+2 they would have been substantial its hard to know exactly as the late reg was still open on the main events.

At about 8 pm the servers crashed with all games eventually been cancelled at about 9:30. There will be lot of people pointing the finger saying it was purposely done so as not to pay out the overlays. Going by the wording of their cancellation policy, they pay out actual prizepool as opposed to the guaranteed prizepool. I would like to think they wouldn't do this but it is totally wrong if party have gained financially from their servers going down. Its also possible it was genuinely server problems or some sort of ddos attack but either way this will be a disaster for party.

Some have suggested the overlays were going to be 1.5m. I wasn't keeping an eye on them last night but was for the rest of the week. last weeks $215 1m guarantee was prob the only high buy-in event with a sizeable overlay of about 250k and all week it was mostly only the low buy-ins KO series games 1$-$11 that were missing the guarantees along with some early MTT scheduled games up to $22 so i don't think the 1.5m estimate would be accurate. The cancelled games are not in the lobby so cannot be checked at the min. I was hoping to see them succeed and hope they recover from this. So i will try keep an open mind for now and how they respond.

Cancellation policy

Single-table Sit & Go tournaments, multi-table Sit & Go tournaments & multi-table tournaments: if a tournament is cancelled for technical reasons, the following refund policy will take effect:

(a) If the tournament has not yet started:
All registered players will be refunded their buy-in and entry fee

(b) If the tournament has started but registration for the tournament is still open (ie the tournament is still in the late registration period):
Eliminated players at the time of cancellation will not be refunded their buy-in or entry fee
Players still in the tournament will be refunded their buy-in and entry fee.
Any buy-ins (excluding entry fees) collected from players who have been eliminated from the tournament will be distributed on a percentage basis to the remaining players according to each remaining player's chip count.
The tournament will only pay out funds which have been collected in buy-ins. Any guaranteed prize pool amount from the tournament will not be a relevant factor in calculating payouts.

(c) If the tournament has started and the registration period for the tournament has closed:
Eliminated players at the time of cancellation will not be refunded their buy-in or entry fee
Players still in the tournament will be refunded the amount that would have been awarded to the next player to be eliminated from the tournament. 50% of the remaining prize pool will be distributed equally between the remaining players, and 50% will be distributed on a percentage basis according to each player's chip count. The remaining players will also be refunded their entry fee.

It does stink from what you have said nuttkicker.
Having lost money on sites shutting up shop and general scummyness of betting companys casinos nothing would surprise me now.

They have released their gesture of goodwill:

I still have zero doubt that it wasn't an intentional shutdown but releasing a gesture which is primarily made up of a guarantee that will not benefit 99%+ of your customers doesn't make much sense.

after playing the live 500k Gtd game and seeing how they keep putting up these guarantees both live and online, i am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and i really don't think it was done on purpose as some have suggested. Really think they would have lost more in reputational damage than anything financially gained by the servers crashing last sunday. Party appear to be aggressively trying to build their player base/brand and players should take whats going by way of overlays and great value sattelites. Party seem to pay out on missed overlays with a smile on their face ready to offer the next.

I noticed quite a lot of the guarantees were missed in today's MTT schedule, again i'd bet they will still be there tomorrow
