I prefer events with a long timeframe as you have time to back and lay. Good events this summer were the World Cup, British Open, Tour de France.
With nothing much happening at the moment I decided to look at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
As always there is plenty of info on the internet as this event began in 1954 (56 years).
Betting is -
Tony McCoy 3.2 (2.2 to 1)
Lewis Hamilton 7.6
Andy Murray 10.0
Phil Taylor 10.5
Lee Westwood 13.5
Amy Williams 25
Jenson Button 29
David Haye 32
England have won 45; Scotland 4; Wales 4; others 3.
Athletics won 17; Formula One 6; Soccer 5; Boxing 5.
Men 43; Women 13.
Almost all of the female winners were Olympians of show jumpers/eventers.
MCCoy won the Grand National but the best results by horseracing were two 3rd places by Frankie Dettori and Tony McCoy.
Lewis Hamilton was 2nd in 2007 and 2008. Button was 2nd in 2009.
Hamilton must have a chance as Formula One polls well, and he is leading the F1 stands with Button 2nd. But two F1 choices will take votes from each other.
Andy Murray didn't win Wimbledon, is Scottish, and tennis last featured in 1997 with Rusedsdki 1st; Henman 2nd.
England did poorly at the World Cup so I don't see a footballer featuring.
Amy Williams is the athletics / English candidate imo. She won a gold medal in the skeleton in the 2010 winter Olympics, the first British individual gold medalist at a winter Olympics in 30 years.
Jessica Ennis is another athletics / English candidate. She won the 2010 World Indoor Championships Pentathlon.
Amy Williams is worth a bet at 25 imo.
