Good Poker Stops for a Tourist

    Hi all,

I'm going to be visiting Ireland in early August. I've been told that it is worth taking a bit of time out of my trip to check out the Irish poker scene. So I was hoping to solicit some suggestions as to some good places for me to visit as I make my way through my first visit to Ireland.

I haven't yet decided exactly what my itinerary looks like. I will be flying into Shannon and out of Dublin. I have 5 days on my own before I meet up with my girlfriend who will be arriving in Dublin, where we will spend the next 5 days. So I will have to make my way to Dublin eventually, but have some time to take my rental car along the western and southern coast, and maybe spend a few evenings playing cards rather than just getting hammered.

Any suggestions on some good places that might be on the way for me or in a location that is worthy of a detour? Ideally, I would like to play mid-stakes limit hold 'em (e.g., around 10/20 or 20/40). Is limit alive and well in Ireland or is no limit the name of the game? All thoughts are appreciated.

There is no limit hold em in Ireland. Cash games tend to be 1-2 no limit hold em or 1-2/2-5 pot limit omaha.

your best bet for higher stake cash games would be at a festival or big 1 or 2 day tourney
you can keep an eye on this thread to see if theres anything on the week your here

Thanks for the heads up on the lack of limit games and the link to the other thread.

Are the casinos/card clubs listed in that other thread the main ones that I should consider visiting, or are there any others?

Lastly, are there any norms/taboos in Irish casinos that an American might unwittingly violate?

Taking our chips is a major no no.

5/10 NLH is rarely spread aside from at festivals.
Best place to find when they are is on the
Live poker tread on here which has a festival section.
There's a regular nightly 2/5 PLO game at the
            Fitzwilliam casino in Dublin.

they would be the main casinos/cardclubs with the fitzwilliam cardclub being in dublin city centre, and the busiest with the biggest games(big games tend to be omaha). if theres not a big game or festival on that week eslewhere this is your best bet, not sure if you want to drink while playing but you can't drink in the fitz but can in others, JPs is prob best game if you want to drink but is not in city center. Cash game players might be able to give better advice though

also if theres nothing on that week You could also ring them and let them know your intrested in a bigger cash game or let other players know on here, have seen bigger games organised on here before

If you are down the south side of the country,(Cork) we are holding a poker festival in early August (4th-7th) and there should be some nice action here. You say you are in Ireland in Early August but only you know what dates you are free, so if the timing suits, call in to us.

You will find more details here closer to the time. http://www.macausportingclub.com/

                Enjoy your trip!

                  Hi Life rebooted,

As mentioned already the Village Green Card Club is on the outskirts of Dublin City Centre. We run tournaments and cash games nightly. Friendly card club that offers beers and has a couple of pool tables and dart boards to relax between hands.

We are also the hosts of the largest poker festivals in Ireland, namely the Norwegian Championships and Irish Open.

Myself and Larry Santo are currently planning the Summer Series €150 Buy-In with €50k Guaranteed. Dates still TBC, we normally run it the middle weekend of August but looks like we will run it towards the end of August, start of September this year.

What dates will you be in Dublin?
