Server / Site issues

For a few months now there has been one problem after another. I estimate that at least 10% of the time there is some sort of an issue with the site.

Today it was ridiculously bad again.

What do we need to do to get a reasonable level of reliability?
Is it just a matter of finding a reliable host or are we having vBulletin issues?

The osting crowd who specialise in vBulletin sounded like a viable option.
Money shouldn't be an issue

Moving to a dedicated server would sort a lot of these issues but that ain't cheap I'm afraid.

Well what are we talking about? Didn't someone post a link to a UK company that hosts some huge vBulliten sites , much bigger than us at fair rates?

someone posted a link to a crowd that specialize in vBulletin hosting as sp mentioned,

another option would be Virtual Private Server (VPS):
This is basically a shared split into much fewer pieces, with one more difference. The software that hosts use literally divides the server resources up so that you are guaranteed your piece of those resources. Other sites on the server will affect you to a much lesser extent. this would be cheaper than getting a dedicated server and would be a vast improvement on what you are using atm.
If you are happy with the support that you get from hostgator chat to them about it. If they provide the service they would be happy to take more money off you!!!!!!!!!! otherwise have a look around for hosts that do provide it. also ask around other similar sized forums they don't have to be poker related just the same size of traffic and storage/bandwidth requirements

I think I'm the person you are referring to. The post was:

I'm not affiliated with this hosting provider in any way but they seem to specialise in vBulletin sites. I only found them because they host Askaboutmoney.

They seem to have a package with up to 400 online users for £13.49 per month.
Hope this helps.

Guys I know that this is a privately owned site but its also a community and the site has not been fit for purpose for a long time now.

Is there any plan to improve it ?
Is there any financial or technical help you need to make it 'just work'?

Ya, we will probably have to bite the bullet and just move at this stage.

Finding much free time lately to give it the attention it needs isn't easy, but we are not just ignoring the situation. This is one of our top 'things-to-do'.

Its getting worse and worse. Seems to be slow or stopped close to 20% of the time now.

Its going on for months and been progressing its now close to the point where the site is unusable.

Is there nothing we can do to help?

I'm busy until next week really, but I have started sending out query emails to hosting companies about VPS hosting in particular. Much more expensive, but if it is guaranteed to work seamlessly, that's the option we will take.
