Just want to let Chris Dowling know that I can't play any of the remaining qualifying tournaments so it looks like the 2013 Irish rankings title is his. Congratulations to him and well played. Enjoy your Xmas break.
Many thanks to Ciaran for running the rankings and I believe he will continue doing so next year. Also thanks to the sponsors for providing the various prizes. Well done again Chris. |

2014
2014 Rankings can be found here. All information including Rankings, upcoming/completed tournaments, winners prize & points scoring method are listed. While the winners prize is up by 25% it really should be a lot more. A few meetings were had and I was pushing to get it up above the €6k mark and was close enough to managing this but in the end the feedback from Organisers was that in the current market they couldn't justify the jump without seeing a return from players. It really is up to all the Irish players to self-promote this if it is ever to see a proper prizepool with 5 figures. It is non-commercial and for the players and we are no longer in the situation of Promoters/Companys just handing out money for no reason. We need to give them a reason. I'll definately add a Macau festival ticket to the 2014 winners prize. As I havent set dates or anything like that yet, you can take it the ticket will be for either the summer festival game or the Xmas festival game that is traditionally held on the 1st weekend in December.
If the IPO is back in Killarney in 2015 as I fully expect it to be, you can take it that I will add a seat for the IPO Killarney as well, along with a bedroom for 2 nights. Thanks for going to the trouble of doing this Ciaran. Connie147 |

There are 5 IPO's at the moment scheduled (London, Newcastle, Dublin, Killarney & Galway) all are multi re-entry, so the winner can pick and choose which way they want to use the 6 tokens (there is also one from Stephen McClean's Poker Ireland). Let's face it, the prize for the winner @ €3.5k is embarrassingly small in the greater scheme of things so I felt that everything should go to the winner rather than dilute it further. There is no money going into this for Advertising so in order for it to grow it really is up to all players to promote the Rankings for it to get where it should be. There is no reason why there shouldn't be a €10k plus package for the winner if companies see it as a viable advertising/promotion tool. Only the players can make this happen. I mean if I could walk into PP next year and they saw from the buzz & people talking about the Rankings that there were 20/30 people saying they were at the IO/IWF this year because they were encouraged to go/qualify due to the Rankings, those 20/30 people are generating a minimum of €4k/6k reg fees. That's what companies want to hear. Same goes for all other Festivals, just using that as an example. Alas, it is very hard to paint a long term picture for a poker player! |

I would also like to see it restrict to how many events can be counted by a player, I.e Say his/her top 8 events in the year, otherwise it will favour the pro's. But great idea and well done on setting it up. |

Boylepoker Paddy Power Poker JP Poker Celtic Poker Northern Poker Poker Ireland Fitzwilliam Casino Macau Casino D4 Events So TBH, these operators will supply 80% of the qualifying games throughout the year. I thought about capping the max games a player could use to arrive at their total for the year but thought this might favour the Pro's more as obviously they could get a lot of their points in the Higher Category (generally higher buyin) Games. This would leave the smaller games less inclusive so prefer the way it is. If I'm happy with this years system, I am half toying with the idea of keeping it as a rolling system similar to the golf/tennis rankings but I'll look into that later in the year. |

Tis a five minute copy & paste job after each Tournament so no bother really. Mind you I don't know how TylerD does that blogging for days on end ![]() Only did it because it looked like a good game to kick off the yearly Rankings with an interesting field. Upcoming Games List updated with a couple of €15k Gtd Games up in Donegal. Awaiting a few more firm dates on some other Tournaments to be added. |
