If a players cards are killed by the dealer in error and if they are still easily identifiable is he allowed take his hand back?

The easy answer is that the onus is on the player to protect his hand at all times.
The more complicated answer is that if the hand can be absolutely identifiable, then the TD could retrieve it. However, identifiable is probably a subjective term in this case. Easy to pre-check the hand by quietly asking the player what he had before the hand is retrieved.
