Music King Qualifying Round Match 5

Player 1

Dance: N-Trance - Set You Free

Absolute classic tune. It's 23 years old and I still bump up the volume every single time I hear that unmistakable piano intro. Perfect Friday afternoon song to put a smile of your face and make you decide you definitely will head out later!!

A la Carte: Saul Williams - List of Demands

Was told about this song by my brother about 10 years ago randomly and loved it ever since. Never really hear it around apart from in one movie or tv show. Love it though. Simple, upbeat and a bit different.3

Whilst looking it up I found that The Kills have released a cover of it with plenty more YouTube hits than the original. Have only listened to it once but not gone on it. Loses the loud, boisterous noise of the Saul Williams one.

Spoiler

Player 2

I was going to try and be clever but then
thought fuck it, first 2 songs that popped into
my head it is

Genre... It's funk, soul, disco, german techno a corner stone of modern dance

I hear punk myself but maybe that's just me!?

Quote:
According to David Bowie, then in the middle of recording of his Berlin Trilogy with Brian Eno, its impact on the genre's direction was recognized early on; "One day in Berlin ... Eno came running in and said, "I have heard the sound of the future." ... he puts on "I Feel Love," by Donna Summer ... He said, "This is it, look no further.
This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next fifteen years." Which was more or less right."

Epic is such a small word...Play it loud!

How do you follow Epic?

aaah yes,Perfection!

no competition really re genre tracks. that Donna Summer track has few rivals, and that N trance track is an abomination!!

2 great second picks. Didn't know that Saul williams one and it's definitely a keeper.

on balance though player 2 wins.

Echo shrapnels sentiments regarding the genre tracks.

Saul williams was my favourite track of the 4, never heard of it and really enjoyed it albeit was apprehensive at the start. Didn't enjoy the John Holt track.

undecided as of now

Vote: Player Two

Unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of any of these, preferred the latter player's choices above the former's though.

I mean I feel like a have to give it P1 just for N-trance
But sadly, we live in a world for 90's dance hits starring beguiling ladies with plaits just isn't enough.
That Saul williams track jarred the fuck out of me listening to this on ear phones. I dunno what I was expected but it reminded me of Scroobius Pip. Great track

Donna summers track is as richie said a cheat code. Proper classic track.
Like the Holt one too. I need to be a particular mind for reggae, on another day. I can see this being just the ticket, but not today.

Yeah 2nd track wins it, p1

Player 2 quite easily.

N-Trance is shocking. I won't say anymore.

Saul Williams is excellent though.

However Donna Summer is a envelope pushing, genre-defining classic and John Holt has that winning Jamaican groove and a some great laid back brass accompaniment.

Ha! That Ntrance song brings back some mad memories.

Donna Summer blows everything away, particularly that 12" version.
