Getting stack count from dealer

I could just be having a brain fart but quick query from live tourney recently:

In a hand and player, asks, 'how much are you playing?' - my stack is clearly visible, in neat stacks of 20. I say, 'approximately 120k' (which was correct). The guy then gives an inquisitive look to the dealer who then begins to count my chips and says, 'yeh, he has just over 120k'

I wasn't really bothered by this, nor by being asked, but I thought dealers were not in a position to count a player's stack (until it crosses the line!) and that as long as the the chips are visible etc it's the other players responsibility to judge stacks accurately?

I thought this is akin to asking what's in the pot but maybe I'm just confused?

Thanks

Nobody should have touched your stack.

Most places/TD's tell the dealer he shouldn't count the chips in that situation and the players are responsible for paying attention, others are fine with it. Depends where you play.

Personally I think dealer's should be able to count your stack at any stage.

you did your part by stacking them neatly, it is then up to your opponent to visually count them. Dealer shouldn't be involved.

Unless the dealer was just relaying what you said to a hard of hearing player he shouldn't be giving his opinion

As already mentioned - most likley casino specifc but this was discussed on EPT live stream today and on the EPT dealers can not count a players stack - so I wasn't going mad, as those at the table had eluded when I queried it

What happens if a player asks you how much you have and you don't respond? Can the dealer tell the player then?
