    Raise or call

    Blinds 500-1000

Folded to SB who places a 5000 chip on his 500 SB chip.

He has 500 and 1000 chips in his stack.

In this situation do we take the bet as 5500 or is it just a call. The player did not say anything when placing the chip down.

it comes under the oversize chip rule
he is placing 1 chip into the pot, so unless he declares otherwise it must stand as a raise.
this is due to the fact that this action can be ambiguous so the responsibility relies on the betting player to be clear with his action, rather than force a calling player to make a raise when they don't want to.

it's rule 32 of the tda rule sheet.

The Poker TDA is a voluntary trade association of the poker tournament industry. The Association is dedicated to adopting a uniform set of poker tournament rules worldwide.

you may be assured that rulings will be queried, particvularly by the player the ruling doesnt suit

hope you stuck by your original decision

rulings by their definition will come down on one side or another

if a player is honest, he will already know whats fair and what the ruling should be

the key to making rulings is "consistancy"
whatever you rule today should be what you rule tomorrow and what you will rule in the future until some expert (like say Thomas Kremser or JP McCann says different)
