A few people have been asking about holidays. I've 20 days to use up before then end of the year. I wasn't expecting to get away for more than a week but I'm now free. Any recommendations? Going to be solo, so preference for somewhere where the locals aren't Swiss, and after being in Australia last year I definitely would prefer somewhere where Eng isn't the local first language but also where a pleb like me can get by with just English no interest in lying on beaches or bus tours, preferably somewhere where I'll end up talking nonsense to locals in pubs at least 50% of the nights I'm there.

Kind thinking maybe seeing more of South America (was only in Brazil and BA for a few days), or somewhere in South East Asia-ish, never been, and probably should get that done before I get any older. (fully aware that I said like a Yank saying they're going to Europe).

edit: actually don't we have a good thread somewhere about this. I'll go have a look.

That's important alright.

Yeah I was there once, 4 years ago, came 2nd in a 40 euro rebuy for around 300 euro. I felt they took too much out of the prizepool for various leagues so I haven't been back. They took in 1960 euro in 49 entries and paid out 1395 euro.

It's a lovely place, 5 minutes from me but I just couldn't see any value in spending that for such little potential return.

I traditionally have trouble using mine too because we get a couple of weeks off at christmas. Made too big of a mistake last year and lost a week of holidays by carrying over more than the max, never again!

Just go to Japan

Sounds like Africa ticks all those boxes especially the travelling solo part.

Addis makes a good base and you can fly anywhere from there with Ethiopian. A day or two in the city and you can take a trip out into the mountains and visit the monasteries. From there I'd look at going to places like Kigali for the genocide museum, the Gorillas and a look at how they have managed to rebuild, maybe Kampala for a contrasting style of governance that's still safe to visit and fun. Zanzibar or somewhere near Maputo for a bit of beach and seafood. Okavango delta or Masi Mara for safari and wildlife the possibilities are endless.

+2 to Japan.

Take lots of photos and write a very detailed descriptions of 'best bars, restaurants and general craic to be had in the vicinity of Ireland's RWC locations'.

It's probably a bit passé but Thailand is really amazing if you find the right parts. It would probably fit your criteria better than most places because there is obviously plenty of boozing, everyone speaks English and there will be tonnes of other solo travellers.

You don't want to be the only cunt at the party who hasn't been when everyone is droning on about it either.

I've been to a lot of those golf resorts and although they are nice they are too quiet for me and my family. My daughter is 15 and she would have nothing to do there.

It's a nice balance here, you have all year round residents and it doesn't get too mad in the height of the summer season. Schools are good and on the doorstep, plus after school activities and friends are close by etc.
My sister and her husband are living in that neck of the woods for the last couple of months. They are taking a year away from work that may end up being more. My family used to have an apartment in Campoamor that has since been sold, but my mom and sister vacation there all the time even after.

Train from Moscow is all I have so far. Vladivostok or Beijing is a subject of contention.

Would only be in Japan for 10 days or so.

Yeah, Campoamor is 10 mins from me. Lovely beach there, but then there are lovely beaches everywhere around here.

I'll be down on the Cabo Roig strip tomorrow night meeting friends, heading to YOLO for grub and probably pop into my see my mates band "Kolted" in the Bushwacka. We're spoiled for quality bars and entertainment here, no cover charge and pints 2.50 - 3.50.

Nice to see the stockmarkets having their traditional October wobbles.

Bought an S&P 500 Inverse Tracker ETF at the start of Sept and it's only in profit from this week Probably jumped too soon in terms of tying the cash up, who knows when the real decline might come, 2019, 2020, whenever.
