    LOI 2014 Season Betting Thread

So the season starts this friday and I thought I would get a thread started.
From my own clubs point of view we've lost a couple we knew we were losing but most have re-signed although our injury list is a little worrying. Dave O'Leary has left for Cork, fair enough its his home town club. Joe Gamble also gone last seen in the middle east playing Bahraini football. We have signed Jason Hughes back and Shane Duggan has come back from Cork and was named club captain for the season. All in all Limerick have a very young squad and we are struggling for an experienced centre half with both Pat Purcell and Brian O'Callaghan retiring post season.

To me Pats look very strong as do Sligo the presidents cup final was a good blowout for both teams(Pats won 1-0 K.Fahey excellent goal) and they look to have signed well.

Rovers have had a massive clearout with names like Oman, Sullivan,Powell,Dennehy,Rice,Chambers and Brush leaving they've lost several experienced heads. They have made some good signings too though Stephen McPhail for Sheff Wednesday and Conor Kenna from Pats.
Big season ahead for UCD and Athlone I expect both to stuggle this year.Possibly Limerick too if we get a bad start.

I haven't paid any real attention to during the winter so don't know much about the transfer business most clubs did.
Interesting to see how Shamrock Rovers B do also welcome back Galway F.C replacing Mervue and SD in the league. Longford made a nice acquisition in Stephen Rice he could be a massive player for them this year.

I wouldn't be a fan of season long bets but Pats are 9/4 for the league which seems a fair price the only other two worth talking about to me are Sligo at 7/2 and Rovers at 4's.Semibluff did say on Twitter that you could do worse than back Enda Curran(Derry) each way for top scorer at 33/1 with PP only 22/1 with Boyles. He also mentioned Odhiambo(Sligo) as ew value.

In Div.1 I haven't the first clue who to fancy although that Longford squad are fancied at best priced even money.

This first weekend Pats at evens away to Cork is tasty. Also got Limerick at 4/6 home to Bray though they are generally 4/7 or 8/15 now.

I'm not really into sportsbetting, but what generally is the price on a red card being shown in a game? It seems that anytime I'm summarising a game to someone I need to mention a sending off! The refere in Cork tonight absolutely ruined the game blowing for a foul everytime a player went to ground. A number of soft yellows were shown especially to city players but I'd be biased here. On another note great to see a big crowd at the cross tonight after a great off season. City look to have good depth this year and really think we are capable of mounting a challenge on the top 3!

              New season same old shit.

Limerick were better if only slightly against Bray it was in truth a terrible game with no flow. The ref blew up for everything 6 yellows and two reds(one a straight red) and I don't think there was even that many bad challenges in the game.

Whats good: our back four looked extremely solid, though Bray didn't offer much. Gaffney looked sharp up top despite lack of service.

Whats bad: our 5 man midfield not creating enough. Duggan will keep picking up silly yellows all season if he keeps flying into challenges.

FWIW I've backed Pats @ 9/4 and Shels @ 8/1 (EW) for their divisions. The Shels bet is a shot in the dark as there's been so many changes throughout the squad. However, 3 places at a 5th of the odds in an 8 team league?! I couldn't say no.

I'll be keeping a very close eye on the Longford Shels market during the week. Shels were very lucky last night and I'd expect Longford to have no problems against us.

                  Longford -V- Shelbourne

Longford 1/1 (Asian firms) 10/11 (general) v Shels on Sat. We are missing one of our best players (Center Half) and are away to the clear favs for the league. Good chance that our other main center halve is out too. Which means that the 2 center backs who started last week, won't feature this weekend. We have a very inexperienced squad and I felt we were quite lucky last weekend against a poor Wexford outfit. I was expecting a max price of 4/6 home win here.....

                  Longford @ evens......10/11.

dundalk should win. but price about right
yeh big fan of Longf this year, and against Shels. Was on Wexf last week.

think pats could put up a cricket score. Really like shams too this year, price just right but Ill do my best to convince myself to take it anyways. Derry good price v Cork, wonder how Roddy will like trying to win a game as opposed to his opening game v Shams.

Shams Bs all about team news, theyre yet to play the 5 senior players who they can. If they brought a strong 5 down, theyd move from evens to 2/5 on a given game - so watch team news
Wexford getn too short - they were interesting at 10/11

On bohs for a lil too

Shels win 1-0! 3 of our center backs were out in the end. A draw would have been a fair result...

Shels a standout 21/20 with BetVictor 10/11 everywhere else and as low as 17/20 with PP.

I fear Pats could batter Limerick saturday at 1/3 general they may be value in -1 at 10/11 with PP.

                                Scouting report:

                                Sligo Rovers are terrible!

Severe lack of thought; pattern; shape; direction

No drive, no leader, no thought process in the engine

John Russell has re-joined a very different team from the one he left!

Will be hard to break down and will be better than most but should be avoided with regard to banker backing for the forcible future imo

Has to be some bit overpriced? Limerick have been far from fantastic but they've been grinding results and would be surprised if there's more than a goal in it. Sligo, although improving a bit in recent matches, haven't been having a great season.

That does look pretty huge. Have Limerick some suspensions or injuries? Tbh Sligo looked very good when they came to the cross. They done every thing well besides finishing, which seemed to be a common trend up until then. In recent weeks though they have definitely found their scoring touch again bagging loads of goals. Still though as you said Limerick have grinded out some results and 6/1 for a side at home against a team in a similar league position has to be overpirced some bit.

I wonder is there some value to be had in the Derry game also. They seem to be allover the place at the moment in the dressing room and creating nothing on the pitch. 6/1 on UCD might not be a bad bet.

Went with a small double at HT, Limerick/UCD, and Limerick +1/UCD +1. If Limerick don't concede a second by the 70th minute I'd fancy them to snatch something .

Cork 4/1 to beat a poor rovers side. Rovers playing their 2 second choice CB's in R Cornwall and D O Connor.

Huge price IMO considering these 2 were an absolute shambles on Friday against Bohs

Huge price IMO considering these 2 were an absolute shambles on Friday against Bohs
By the sounds of it Cork city will be playing a weakened team also. They've had a lot of games recently and Caulfield has said he will be forced to rest a few in this game. Considering Rovers second team play in the first division every week I would expect their back up players to be a lot sharper than ours unfortunately.

Not to be aftertiming but I forgot to post in this thread about Limerick vs Bray, Limerick were 1/2 so not too much value lost anyway. The new manager seems excellent and they're playing really good football atm. They're playing Dundalk and St Pats (both away) in the next two games so it's probably worth keeping an eye on their price in those games. Just posting now in case I forget, but I'm hoping there'll be some value in something like Limerick +1 in the Dundalk game.

forgot to post again. Limerick were 13/2 before kick off, currently 70mins gone and 0-0.

EDIT: 84th minute winner for Dundalk
