Did you download a fresh install file from the pokerstars website before trying to install or install from a previously downloaded file?

Sorry Wes, no other big ideas. I am not using Windows 8. If it was a general problem google would have yielded something, but nothing to be found.

Try deleting all Pokerstars related folders and then click to download anew from the website. That way you can be sure it's a fully clean install.

          C:\Program Files (x86)\Pokerstars
C:\Users\Lloyd O' Farrell\AppData\Local\PokerStars [this would be whatever your primary user account on your laptop is]

Do this after uninstalling in the usual way needless to say.

I'd also say delete the reg keys involved aswell but I am stumped as to what path they are hiding under on my Windows 7 machine.

Anyway, give that a whirl Wes, certainly won't make the issue worse!!

The problem with windows 8 is that a lot of apps (previously called programs) haven't been given a windows 8 release.

There should be a button to install anyway, then when you open the app it says "windows can check online for help to run this program", then click run without getting help.

That's about the best I can offer, I had similar issue with Windows 8 and some programs.
