I have an idea for a World Cup Sweepstake (yes another one!) but I’m hoping this one will keep quite a few players interested right up until the final whistle.
There is only 21 available slots in this sweepstake and the entry will be $50 (€41) for 1 pick, or $75 (€61) for 2 picks.
Every player in the World Cup has a surname (bar some Brazilians and such others) so the idea is to choose the initial of the Surname of who you think will be top goalscorer. E.g. if you choose “R” you get Rooney, Ronaldo etc if you choose “T” you get Torres, Tevez etc.
The draw will be done random and all 21 players (see last paragraph as to why there is only 21 picks) will be put into a virtual hat and drawn out. If you have 2 picks, your name will go into the hat twice.
The order of the names drawn out, is the order in which you get to chose the letter you want, so if the list comes out as..

Then it begins once i post in the thread and send a PM to valor telling him he has 3 HOURS to provide me with his pick or else we move onto ianmc who will then have a choice to pick from whichever letters are left. If at any stage valor comes back and posts, his chosen letter will stand provided it hasn’t been picked.
If you feel you might not be online, you can also PM me your list of preferred letters and once the draw is done, I will chose the letter highest up your list when it’s your turn to pick.
All money will be escrowed before start of play. I will shut up shop once I get 21 picks, or 2 days before the tournie kicks off, whichever comes first.
Should everything sell, the minimum that will be in the prizepool will be $800 and the maximum is $1050 . I will pay $200 for 2nd place and the winner will get the rest of the loots in the prizepool.
I checked through the list of the Top 100 goalscorers in the betting on this thread…http://www.world-cup-guide.com/golden-boot.html and I have decided to group some letters together because nobody wants to be stuck with an “X” or a “Z”
There are 17 individual letters to chose from..

There are 4 groups of letters to choose from as every letter above has more than 1 player in the top 100.
I+J (only Iaquinta and Jovanovic appear on the list)
O+X (only Ozil and Xavi on list)
Y+Z (only Yakubu and Zigic on list)
Q+U+W (no players in top 100)
It’s just an idea at the moment, so if there’s not enough interest, I won’t go with it, if there is I’ll get more details up and we’ll take it from there.
I’ll take 2 places and the missus will take 1 so that’s 3 spots gone.
