Got it down to just smoking when I head out for a pint. Best case scenario for now.

I've always said if I only smoked when I was drinking I'd settle for that. I'm not the kind of person that can do that though.
That's pretty cool for ya check raise unless your in the pub 24-7.

          Day 15
Had a few beers last night with the wifey for mother's day. Found it difficult at times but survived. Thankfully the weekend is over and I managed to pull through it.
I don't think I'll bother with a daily update from now on. Maybe every few days or something.
I've found that keeping this log has been helpful and the support from you guys has been up lifting. thx all.

Thanks hitchhiker. I'm not really inclined to relax yet it's just that the updates can become a little boring.

              Day 16
Today was weird. My colleague at work who quit the cigarettes the same day as me informs me that she is back on them. She had some personal issues that stressed her and the rest is history. I don't think it will effect my quit tbh I'm just disappointed for her.

I couldn't stay awake at work today. If I sat down to read a document or anything my eyes were closing. I think I may even have nodded off for a couple of mins. Prob something to do with my body using up all this energy to heal itself.

I still can't face into loading a set of MTTS. I guess I'd be asleep before the antes kicked in.

There's a funny little Spanish poker player who plays big events when they are on in Ireland, his nickname is El Tren. Some people on here thought he was novelty and it got out of hand.

                        Day 19.
Hardly think about the cigarettes at all now. Been thinking a lot more about my weight and general health.

I weighed myself today for the 1st time in years. 192lbs = 13.5 stone or 87.1kg. Lol the last time I weighed in for a boxing match I was 63.5 kg. The lady who provided the scales wasn't quite au fait with using the BMI function which read 52.5 (obviously incorrect) lol. From using an online chart my BMI is more like 27.5. which is still overweight.

So without setting any targets I do intend to lose some weight over the next few months. I will be focusing on increased exercise and improved eating habits rather than on the weight. I have already made some changes to my diet and am exercising more so I expect to lose some weight naturally anyway. For now I'll just check it every week or 2 and if I'm not dropping a few lbs then I may consider a more focused weight loss plan.

I've decided to set myself a new challenge to keep me going.
                        Sub 60 min 10k.
There is a 10k in Westport on the new Western Walkway May 26th which I intend to run.
My PB from my 1 and only 10k was 61min 50secs (10 secs slower than I thought, but the official times are on the website now). My aim is to break the 1 hr mark but I'll be disappointed if I'm not closer to the 55 minute mark (provided I do the training).

I've been cycling 10k x3 /week for the last couple of weeks and last night I started my first run (1m). I'll be doing a couple of 1mile runs over the next few days until I work out a proper 10k training schedule.

                          Day 20

                          Still smoke free. Feels good.
Discovered today that I'm not drinking enough water. I should be drinking @3-4l per day. I've only been drinking 3-4 glasses. This probably explains why I'm a bit lethargic at times and feeling hungry more than I should.

My joints aren't liking the road running. (ankle and knee). Taking a rest day tomorrow and may have to re.think the 10k training. Will take things slowly and see how it goes. I'm enjoying the cycling anyway so not majorly pushed if the running doesn't work out.

                              Day 22

Here's my 10k training schedule. I'm fairly clueless about this sort of stuff so if anyone sees any glaring errors please feel free to point them out.

Chart key = 3x5mins 2min translates to 3 x 5 minute runs with 2 minutes of walking in between etc.

I intend to do some of the running on the football pitch or some other softer ground if the joints react negatively. Hopefully they won't and I can manage to get through this.

Was too disgusted with myself to update yesterday as I had a bit of a hic-up on Tuesday night. Ended up going for 1/2 beers which ended up turning into a session which ended with me having 2 cigarettes.

Training is going according to plan so far. Hopefully that will still be the case as I get further into it.

No need to be disgusted, accept it as a mistake and move on. Dont dwell on it. Took me 3 attempts to give up,have to re-train your self not to associate a cup of tea or a pint with ciggies.

Thanks Mocata. Hopefully it's the last mistake with the cigs. The way I feel at the moment is that I would never smoke again if I didn't drink. I don't want to give up every bad habit I have; there are enough saints out there. But I may have to knock the drink on the head for a while. It's not that I drink a lot but I do like a few. (usually 1 night / week).

It's so hard when your looking around the net for a healthy eating plan. For every site that says something is good for you there's another saying it's bad. Tilting.

The 10k training is going pretty well so far. Although today is supposed to be a run day I've already done @10miles on the bike. Will prob give the run a shot later anyway. I'm trying to travel the roads less travelled for my runs. Not to avoid traffic but because I must be a pitiful site jogging along at a pace that wouldn't keep up with most people walking. It's embarassing how bad a shape I've allowed myself to get into over the last few years. Onwards and upwards.

Gl to anyone else who may be trying to quit.

Weight loss to date: 7lbs (delighted with that).
Did a 10 mile cycle today on my bro in law's fancy racing bike: (he's into triathlon's) a cool machine that eat's the miles pretty quickly.
I didn't have any training gear with me. Forgot to bring it but never fear my sisters and mum decided it would be hilarious to see me dressed in real cycling gear. I looked like a fookin oompa loompa in tights. We all had a good laugh at my expense.

My lungs have been clearing out a lotta gunk the last 2 days and I think I may be getting a chest infection. Hopefully not.

I still can't play any poker at night. Too tired mostly and goldfish concentration levels don't help. I guess my health is more important for now. I still have the UKIPT in Nottingham to look forward to and will try and check in on Silky in the new casino in Ballina over the Easter.

It's been a month already. It's been tougher the last few days than the 2nd week for some reason. Exercise schedule is going to plan.
I made a Bulgarian training bag yesterday. It's an awesome piece of training epuipment for very little. There are tons of vids on youtube with sample exercises. Great for strength and conditioning. It's tougher than it looks as well.

                                                        -6kg weight loss

I had been feeling a bit deprived lately because there is no gym on the island to go to. But then I came across some stuff on the net and have started to make some DIY gym equipment. So far I've made some dumbells, a punch bag, a weight lifting bar with weight on ends (not adjustable), an ab wheel and the Bulgarian bag. The equipment is pretty crude but it works and it's fun making it. To buy the real version of all I have made so far would probably cost @€500. It's not so much about the money but that it's somewhat satisfying to work out with stuff that I made myself.

Managed to play some pokers last night and final tabled the 12.5k $5.40 turbo on stars. Nice to be back.

                                                          Weight loss 14lbs

It's been a week since my last update. Unfortunately I smoked a few over the bank holiday weekend (Sat and Sunday). Can't really blame the alcohol this time as I only had 2 pints. Was around a lot of smokers over the weekend and the days prior to it. The junky thinking in my brain convinced me that a cigar would not be a problem and that lead to me smoking a few over the 2 days.

On a more positive note I am well ahead in my training schedule. I've put in a 23min run 20km cycle and a 20 min run in my last 3 sessions which is well ahead of the 15mins in my schedule. I've slacked off a little on the healthy eating and as a result the weight loss has slowed down a bit.

Off to Nottingham tomorrow. Looking forward to a deep run. Hopefully.

                                                              Day 44
Nottingham was a car crash as far as this log goes. I smoked almost at my original levels for the whole weekend. I had quite a few beers on Friday night and my healthy eating went out the window. The only consolation is that I got out for a run along the riverbank on Thursday evening.

Nottingham went well pokerwise in that I came home with slightly more money than I went over with.
Bust with 1/2 an hour to go at end of day 1c. I managed to build up a 54k stack (more than double the average at the time) in the middle of the day. But as the day rolled on I lost 3 flips to short stacks aks<jj, kqs <tt, tt <kq and then lost with 99 v ajo when I was short myself. Ya gotta win those races.

Hi apokerw... thanks for your comments.

                                                              Not Achill It's Clare island.

I'll just have 1. It's a sort of junkie thinking that takes over in our brains and cons us into taking that 1 fix that leads us back into trouble again. I fookin hate being a smoker. 2 days clean again.

Don't let a part of your brain fool you into creating a superordinate category of acting healthily which allows you to balance smoking with going for a run.

Not that you should beat yourself up about having smoked. But also don't excuse it with this argument of balance.

The brain eh? You wouldn't be up to it

Quit smoking 3 days ago not a long time i know but 1 day at a time as they say.
I was getting or should i say not bothering to do any exercise at all. From sitting on laptop to sitting in local poker hall to sitting in local pub was about as much as i exercise i was bothering with. Even when the convo came up in the hall or the pub id just laugh and say that sounds like to much hard work for me. Then about 3 months or so ago i started to get some serious pains in my arm and my chest. But the usual carry on carried on.

I was always saying tomorrow ill start and first thing next day id have fag in mouth before i even had a thou for the day and then it was "ah sure tomorrow again"

Decided last Tuesday morning that enough was enough and that a change was needed. So i just quit and have kept to it since as i said only 3 days but hey.... I actually had a great nights sleep last nite and today i feel 100 times better than the slob i was turning into.

I did buy the patches, 24 hr 1s, so a little help was needed.

I got my bike out yesterday evening and went hard on it I don't think this was the cleverest thing to do as by the time i got back I was panting like a dog. And the pains in my chest were noticeably stronger. So I'm looking on the site that Vendetta talked about looking for a easier way back to health. Not an easier way but a healthier way.

My goal is to get back to being able to do some light exercise and then move up to try get rid of the beer gut that Iv gained over past few yrs. So Ill be looking at other post on here to see if there is a way that suits me.

                                                                    So here goes....
