Like a lot of people who have to deal with Twitter, Facebook as part of their daily work I have increasingly little interest in contributing to social media in my spare time! Want to get a decent home office setup with dual monitors (I remote into my VDI) - what's the recommended setup these days?

I have a shitty HP laptop that I'd be quite happy to chuck in the bin. Buy a better laptop or a desktop? Is there still such things as docking stations? Help plz - don't need massive computing power as it's VDI.

A Surface is the job if you need to move around at all (great for punting in front to the tv) , you can get a docking station and connect a couple on monitors. I've recently changed from 2 monitors to a single 4k larger one and i prefer that but thats down to taste.

What do you mean "this time around"? That makes it sound as if these new job sprung up once, 10/20 years ago, to get us out of a hole. But when in reality it's been happening for 1,000s of years.

The Romans had a standing army of nearly 500,000. The plebs probably couldn't imagine what they would do the fighting stopped, and population grew. But technology and society advanced, all sorts of service and industrial job emerged.
The industrial revolution probably brought similar fears of automation - because they couldn't imagine how society would look in the 1900's.
The % of people in different working environments changes constantly. I don't see why it should suddenly stop

This is at the crux of the argument that BP was questioning. If automation leads to high levels of unemployment then how do we cope with that as a society? Another form of distribution is needed at that point through other methods than work. I think Musk talks about having a Tax on automation and the living wage. From the little I have looked into that, it would be a disaster for society as you would further concentration of wealth in areas while providing a baseline living for the majority of society.

You mentioned one trial going on. There are a huge number of them all around the world at this stage. So I guess the best thing is to see what data comes out of them. A few people on Reddit who are part of them have done AMA's.

Personally I have both but it sounds like you just need a laptop with a dock and a couple of monitors (with desk or wall mounts a necessity for wow factor)/mechanical keyboard/cool looking mouse, mahogany desk and a Hermin Miller Aeron. That way you can at least travel with your laptop.

From the little I saw of Dub Galway in background on Sat it looked horrible, closer to Aussie Rules than Gaelic now.

Genuinely think a nippy forward like Gooch Cooper wouldnt have had nearly as good a career if that rule was in place and that cant be a good thing. Anything that benifits physical abnormality over skill is a no in my book.
