That's pretty average by Samcro there, didn't hurdle wonderfully either. No way that yoke wins a CH imo.

Wouldn't be judging him on that, all Elliots have been very backward first run andctge market suggested he wasn't race fit.

His next entry will be the teller, if he was anywhere close to right there then he will be in a Chase over 2m 4f plus. I still wouldn't right him off for CH.

2m on good ground at Cheltenham, in a CH?

Couldn't have any of it tbh.

I'm still in the wait and see to be honest, ground not often good on Day one either and you need a horse that will stay 2m4f to win a champion, plenty have come the longer novice route.

We might let GAB adjudicate on this but it is my firm belief that the ground is generally Good (and that's UK good ) at the Festival these days.

Last year was the first properly bad ground I can remember for a long time. The works they did almost made the course too well-drained imo.

By Day 3-4 yes but always a bit of cut in the ground on the Tuesday. Claisse wouldn't lie straight in bed and will 99% of the time declare it as Good to Soft regardless but having walked the course on the evening before a couple of times there is always that bit if juice left in it so as to ensure t h ge ground for the Gold Cup will be genuinely good ground.

The way our weather has been over the last number of years though this is all conjecture, we could have snow or just as easily a heat-wave come March.

Old course is used first two days and old course is used Thursday and Friday. But as far as I know and I could be wrong they are both watered etc at the same time and they try not to have any watering once the festival starts, a lot of both courses run in parallel to each other. Could be wrong re the watering policy but that was always my understanding.

Istabraq in 2000 was the last time the official going was good for the Champion Hurdle but as I said earlier that comes with a health warning, Jezkis win looked like good ground and the clock on all the races that day suggested likewise.

These Ralph Beckett Lupe De Vega fillys owned by Waverly racing are a bit suspicious. He's had three run this year already, all won first time out in good maidens. A fourth one entered in Newmarket today and backed off the boards.

Ah fair enough, I guess that level of suspicion in general is to be expected these days.

Not sure why the fact that they are all Lope de Vega's would heighten scepticism though
I don't know much about Beckett but he or whoever is buying for him wouldn't be the first or last to specialise in spotting the particular characteristics of a family that lead to early winners.

They're either the most fortunate owners of all time to have bought four fillies and subsequently had them all chalked up at 40/1 or less for next seasons 1000 guineas or there's something more than meats the eye going on. Their strike rate just seems too good to believe.

Saying that a Lope de vega filly won a breeders race by half the track last night so maybe he was just firing magical bullets 2 years ago.

Acclamatio fancied to win the 2.55 at punches town. Value may be gone 9/2 to 5/2 already but should win. Won very nicely on the flat 3 weeks ago. On a nice mark over hurdles today.

Martin's hurdlers have been pretty dire last couple of years, prob one of the worst strike rates in Irish racing in that period.
Hes a big lay at bottom end of that gamble.

There's going to be 24 or 25 runners, currently 37 entries. At 32 is Swingbridge. Elliott trained, as are 13 other entries, but owned by Noel Moran. Noel is a Navan man born and bred and is worth about €130m. His company, EComm Merchant Solutions, is headquartered in Navan and is now Gordon Elliott's main sponsor. The Troytown is a 3m handicap and Navan's showcase race, Swingbridge has been second there over 2m4f and has won twice at Perth over 3m, including beating Vaniteaux, Double Ross and Play the Ace to name a few. It wouldn't be unlike Elliott to pull off a big coup in this race (See Balbriggan in 2014, opened at 11s, won at 4s) and it would be great for him to win it for his yard's main sponsor. I'll wait to see final declarations but if he gets in I'd expect him to be popular

Elliott has actually won this race for the last 4 years (2014 Balbriggan 4/1, 2015 Riverside City 8/1, 2016 Empire of Dirt 12/1 and 2017 Mala Beach 2017 (I was stood behind owner Chris Jones for this)). It's a race he targets and is his local track (along with Fairyhouse). He will likely have about 10 runners of the final 25. General Principal (last years Irish GN winner), Poorman's Hill, Out Sam, Rogue Angel and Squouateur and some others will also probably take their chances for him as well as some big names for Willie and Noel Meade.

I just wouldn't be surprised if there was a coup planned with Swingbridge given the local and yard connections.
